Bug ID: 527072
Summary: Option to use the incoming message's recipient (To:)
address as the sender (From:) when replying
Classification: Applications
Product: kmail2
Version First 6.4.3
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: UI
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
Description:
When replying to a message that was sent to a plus-addressed (subaddressed)
alias, e.g. [email protected], KMail does not use that plus-address
as the From: of the reply. It falls back to the default identity's primary
address, dropping the +label.
Today this only works if a matching identity or alias exists for every
plus-address. That is impractical for dynamic subaddressing, where new, one-off
labels appear frequently (e.g. generated by contact forms).
Proposed behaviour:
Add a setting (per identity or global) such as "When replying, use the
recipient address of the original message as the sender address". This would
copy the To:/Delivered-To: of the incoming mail into the From: of the reply,
preserving arbitrary plus-labels without maintaining an alias per label.
Reproducible:
Always. Reply to any mail addressed to a plus-address that has no dedicated
identity.
