Summary: Internal display re-enabled on key press while lid is
closed
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.8.0
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
When using an external keyboard connected via a docking station, and closing
the laptops lid, pressing any key from the keyboard wakes up the closed
laptop's lid and extends my virtual desktops to the closed laptop monitor. This
does not happen when the keyboard is connected to the laptop's USB port
directly.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Dock the laptop, plug the USB keyboard receiver into a dock USB port.
2. Close the lid, laptop screen turns off.
3. Press any key on the external keyboard.
4. The laptop's closed screen turns back on.
OBSERVED RESULT
The laptop's closed screen turns back on.
Using the USB port of the laptop itself for my keyboard does not lead to this
behavior.
EXPECTED RESULT
Waking up the laptop's display should not depend on where a keyboard was
connected.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
According to an investigation ran by AI, this could be related to change in
libinput and how it handles internal and external keyboards. I'm happy to post
the reasoning here, but only should it be requested, not knowing what the rules
of the community on AI/LLMs are.
