--- Comment #9 from Teddy <[email protected]> ---
Confirming this regression on Kubuntu 26.10, and confirming that the one-line
fix from attachment 196952 also fixes Ubuntu's packaged KRFB 26.08.1.

Environment:

OS: Kubuntu 26.10 (Stonking Stingray)
KDE Plasma: 6.7.5
Graphics platform: X11
KRFB: 4:26.08.1-0ubuntu1
Kernel: 7.3.0-9-generic

This machine was upgraded from Kubuntu 26.04 using "update-manager -d" since
does not auto update yet.
During the upgrade KRFB changed from:

4:25.12.3-0ubuntu1

to:

4:26.08.1-0ubuntu1

With the stock Kubuntu 26.10 package, KRFB starts and remains running:

$ pgrep -a krfb
7621 /usr/bin/krfb -qwindowtitle

but no VNC listener is created:

$ ss -ltnp | grep -E 'krfb|:590[0-9]\b'
(no output)

$ nc -vz -w 2 127.0.0.1 5900
nc: connect to 127.0.0.1 port 5900 (tcp) failed: Connection refused

UFW was inactive, so this was not a firewall issue.

I then downloaded Ubuntu's exact krfb_26.08.1-0ubuntu1 source package on the
same Kubuntu 26.10 system and rebuilt it with only the one-line fix already
proposed in attachment 196952.

In krfb/invitationsrfbserver.cpp, InvitationsRfbServer::init():

instance->setPasswordRequired(true);
instance->setPasswordSet(true);

I built and installed the patched package as:

krfb 4:26.08.1-0ubuntu1+localfix1

After starting KRFB normally from the Plasma graphical session:

$ pgrep -a krfb
21694 /usr/bin/krfb -qwindowtitle Krfb

$ ss -ltnp | grep -E 'krfb|:590[0-9]\b'
LISTEN 0 32 0.0.0.0:5900 0.0.0.0:* users:(("krfb",pid=21694,fd=19))
LISTEN 0 32 [::]:5900 [::]:* users:(("krfb",pid=21694,fd=20))

$ nc -vz -w 2 127.0.0.1 5900
Connection to 127.0.0.1 5900 port [tcp/*] succeeded!

$ timeout 2 nc 127.0.0.1 5900 </dev/null | head -1
RFB 003.008

Remote VNC access also works normally again.

So this independently confirms on Kubuntu/Ubuntu 26.10 that:

1. The stock 4:26.08.1-0ubuntu1 package is affected.
2. The symptom is the same: KRFB remains running but creates no RFB/VNC
listening socket.
3. Adding instance->setPasswordSet(true); to InvitationsRfbServer::init() is
sufficient to restore the listener and working VNC access.
4. No downgrade of Plasma, Qt, KPipeWire, PipeWire, LibVNCServer, or any other
package was required.

This also confirms that the issue is reproducible on Plasma X11, not only
Wayland.
