Bug ID: 527542
Summary: Panel created on a secondary monitor is incorrectly
assigned to the primary screen. After rebooting, it
moves to the primary monitor. The issue affects
default, empty, and cloned panels in KDE .
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.8.0
Reported In:
Platform: CachyOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Panel

Title: Secondary monitor panel is assigned to the primary screen (lastScreen=0)
and moves after reboot
Description:
After upgrading to KDE Plasma 6.8 on CachyOS, any newly created or cloned panel
on my secondary monitor is assigned to the primary monitor in the configuration
file.
The panel initially appears on the correct monitor, but after rebooting, it
moves to the primary display and overlaps the existing panel/is placed above
existing panel. The misplaced panel is only visible in Edit Mode.
The issue occurs with Default Panel, Empty Panel, and cloned panels.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Connect two monitors.
2. Set the DisplayPort monitor as primary.
3. Create a new panel on the secondary HDMI monitor.
4. Exit Edit Mode.
5. Reboot the system.
6. Enter Edit Mode on the primary monitor.
Actual result:
The secondary panel moves to the primary monitor and overlaps the existing
panel/appears above existing panel.
In `~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc`, the newly created panel
has the incorrect value:
```ini
[Containments][267]
lastScreen=0
```
Expected result:
The panel should remain on the secondary monitor after rebooting, with the
correct screen assignment.
Confirmed workaround:
Manually changing `lastScreen=0` to `lastScreen=1` for the affected panel while
`plasmashell` is stopped resolves the issue. The panel then remains on the
correct monitor after rebooting.
System configuration:
- OS: CachyOS
- Desktop: KDE Plasma 6.8
- Primary monitor: DP-1, 2560×1440, 144 Hz, 125% scaling
- Secondary monitor: HDMI-A-1, 3440×1440, 99.99 Hz, 125% scaling
- Display layout: Side by side, HDMI on the left
- Primary display priority: 1
- Secondary display priority: 2
