Follow-up to bug 527163, which is closed as fixed in 6.8.1. Not fixed on my
setup, and the Intel Vulkan driver is installed, so that bug's trigger doesn't
apply here.
Setup: MUX-less laptop, RTX 3070 Laptop (nvidia 615.78.08) + Tiger Lake UHD
(i915, Mesa 26.2.4). Internal 1080p 360 Hz panel is wired to the Intel GPU. No
external monitor.
KWIN_DRM_DEVICES=<nvidia card>:<intel card> to make NVIDIA the render GPU.
Kernel 7.2.7, Gentoo.
Since 6.8.0:
- desktop and lock screen wallpaper are black
- windows stop updating until resized or maximized
- hover highlights appear seconds late
This exact config worked for months through 6.7.5; it broke on the upgrade to
6.8.0.
Fine on 6.8.x when Intel is primary (KWIN_DRM_DEVICES unset).
Still broken on 6.8.1 with each of these:
- KWIN_ALLOW_VULKAN_MGPU_COPIES=0
- KWIN_DISABLE_VULKAN=1
- KWIN_DRM_DISABLE_TRIPLE_BUFFERING=1, KWIN_DRM_FORCE_MGPU_GL_FINISH=1,
KWIN_USE_OVERLAYS=0 (tested on 6.8.0)
Since it still happens with KWIN_DISABLE_VULKAN=1, I skipped the Vulkan
validation run.
Nothing relevant in journalctl --user-unit plasma-kwin_wayland or the kernel
log.
Attached, all captured in the broken NVIDIA-primary session
(KWIN_DISABLE_VULKAN=1 set): drm_info, vulkaninfo, kwin journal,
supportInformation.
Happy to run a debug build or patches.
