            Bug ID: 527720
           Summary: plasmashell hangs on shutdown (stop-sigterm timeout)
                    with QObject::disconnect: Unexpected nullptr parameter
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell

Full plasmashell log: QML addItem error, QObject::disconnect, stop-sigterm
timeout.

SUMMARY
-------
plasmashell hangs on shutdown and does not respond to SIGTERM. After a timeout
of ~40 seconds, systemd kills it with SIGKILL. The issue is intermittent and
occurs regardless of session uptime (from 1 minute to 5+ hours). It happens in
a Wayland session with Plasma 6.8.1.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
------------------
1. Use a Plasma 6.8.1 Wayland session.
2. Shut down or reboot the system (either from the menu or via `systemctl
poweroff`).
3. Observe that plasmashell does not terminate cleanly.
4. After ~40 seconds, systemd kills plasmashell with SIGKILL.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
-----------------
plasmashell should terminate cleanly on shutdown/reboot and the system should
power off/reboot in a few seconds.

OBSERVED BEHAVIOR
-----------------
plasmashell hangs and does not respond to SIGTERM. The following errors appear
in the logs just before the hang:

  QGridLayoutEngine::addItem: Can't add Body_QMLTYPE_419(0x...) ...
  QObject::disconnect: Unexpected nullptr parameter

Then systemd reports:

  plasma-plasmashell.service: State 'stop-sigterm' timed out. Killing.
  plasma-plasmashell.service: Killing process 767 (plasmashell) with signal
SIGKILL
  plasma-plasmashell.service: Failed with result 'timeout'.

SYSTEM INFORMATION
------------------
- Distribution: EndeavourOS (Arch Linux)
- Kernel: 7.2.11-arch1-1
- Plasma version: 6.8.1
- Qt version: 6.12.0 (or whatever `pacman -Q qt6-base` reports)
- Session type: Wayland
- KWin version: 6.8.1-2 (updated, bug persists)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
----------------------
- The panel configuration has been reset to default (file
~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc removed) and the issue
persists.
- KWin has been updated to 6.8.1-2, but the issue persists.
- The issue is intermittent: it can happen after 1 minute or after 5+ hours of
uptime.
- The error QGridLayoutEngine::addItem appears a few seconds before the
shutdown request, suggesting some panel applet or QML component is leaving
plasmashell in an inconsistent state.
- I have not isolated a specific applet, but the system tray and its child
applets are the main suspects.
- Attached logs:
  * journalctl -b -1 --user-unit plasma-plasmashell.service (full plasmashell
log from the failed shutdown)
  * journalctl -b -1 --since "23:50:25" --until "23:51:15" (the exact window of
the hang)
