Since upgrading from Plasma 6.7.5 to 6.8.2 (Fedora 44), XDG autostart
applications start ~5 minutes after login. The desktop itself is up
immediately.
Cause: drkonqi-coredump-cleanup.service has WantedBy=plasma-core.target and
After=default.target. So plasma-core.target (and with it
plasma-workspace.target, graphical-session.target and
xdg-desktop-autostart.target) now waits for default.target.
In my case a user unit in default.target.wants (an sshfs mount waiting for an
SSH agent, with a 5-min timeout) delayed default.target. Admittedly that unit
belonged in graphical-session.target and I’ve moved it there. Under 6.7.5,
though, plasma-core.target was reached independently of default.target. Boot
from 2026-10-30: plasma-core.target at 07:13:54, default.target at 07:16:02.
With 6.8.2, any slow unit in default.target now blocks the whole Plasma session
startup. Is that ordering intended? If the cleanup should just run “sometime
after login”, ordering it after plasma-core.target (or dropping
After=default.target) would avoid coupling the session to default.target.

Related: bug 528003 (same pattern of After= on generic targets in drkonqi
units, causing ordering cycles on shutdown). The patch attached there only
touches the .timer and .path units; drkonqi-coredump-cleanup.service keeps
After=default.target, which is what delays login here.
