Seems like you are using an old MLT version. The "sum" feature in the audio mix transition was added in november 2016. The result you posted with the "sum" version seems to use the default mix transition which halves the audio samples before mix. I attached the wav file created with your files using a recent MLT and the "sum" feature working. Can you check if the audio is better (regarding clicks an volume) ?
