Thus there does seems to exist a Kde specific issue. Also, before I uninstalled Neon I noticed that it wasn't the action of login in to user X's account that caused the pc to suspend, but rather simply the switch back to user X's account: it would suspend after a few seconds, regardless if you login in or just stay at the login screen.
