I can confirm this: you get no ants when you create a local selection mask that
way and activate the selection mask. The selection mask works, however, even if
you can't see its outline. Once you close the document and re-open it, the ants
show up as they should.

This reminds me of the first version of the "split to local selection masks"
feature, which also had the issue of no ants showing up. My guess is that
whatever confifu did to fix that should also work here?
