Also after it was possible to have the thumbnails greater than 256px the pictures were always sharp. And digikam always used the embedded previews (which were already at 1600x1200 for my old Olympus E-510 raw) and not the halfsize raw because otherwise pictures shot in b/w would have a color thumbnail in album view.
