One bit of advice is that whenever my reconciliation totals don't match or are
not what I expect, I filter the ledger. First I look at "not marked"
transactions, then at "not reconciled." For me, at least, one of these has
always led me to something I had forgotten, such as a check I wrote months ago
which has still not been cleared. If you can think of any other advice, I can
include it in the handbook, which is currently undergoing a complete review in
preparation for the eventual release of 5.2, from master branch, although there
is not yet any timeline. Improved text for within the reconciliation wizard
itself will also be considered.
