SUMMARY
I’m Trying to install KDE Neon 6 from the live User edition from USB Stick.
Motherboard is Supermicro H8DG6-F with SAS3.0 drives, and LSI MegaRaid 6. BIOS
version 3.5c.
System previously had KDE Neon Installed but got corrupted. So I’m reinstall
Neon. I therefore chose manual partition because I have data on /home and /srv
partitions; left an 8MB partition unformatted with bios-grub flag checked;
formatted 1.5TB for root partition. Installation completes without error.
However after rebooting, this error message shows up
Error: file ‘/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod’ not found.
Entering rescue mode…
grub rescue>_
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Neon 6 Live
2. Choose Manual Partition
3. Leave 8MB bios-grub partition unformatted as stated in popup note
4. Choose to format root partition (1.75T in my case) as btrfs
5. Do not format /home (2.75T) and /srv (12T) previously formatted as btrfs
6. Install as normal
OBSERVED RESULT
After the systems reboots,
Error: file ‘/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod’ not found.
Entering rescue mode…
grub rescue>_
EXPECTED RESULT
Boot to Neon desktop.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Neon 6
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
After getting the error, I examined the root drive in grub_rescue, and there
was no /boot/grub/i386-pc directory. I then rebooted with the live CD (on USB
stick) and (auto)mounted the HDD root in /media/media/xxxxx, and indeed there
is no directory "/boot/grub/i386-pc/"
