The dot is an idication from KBabel for space. We don't insert it. We just use 
space and KBabel shows the space as a dot.

These purpel characters are always in connection with the ampersand sign (&) 
and designate menu accelerators. Which is nothing more than the line under 
menu entries in an application. You can then select Alt+thatcharacter as a 
shortcut to run that command/entry form the menu.
You have to assign the & sign to your translation too and then check it with 
the accelerator check from the tools menu from KBabel to see that you don't 
have any duplications in a menu.
