The icons case is slightly more complicated, most of the logo policies dictate 
that one cannot create a logo even remotely remaining the service logo (that's 
the case for Skype and Facebook at least; basically any "S" in a circle or "f" 
in a blue rectangle is infrigement).

I'd suggest to find the exact terms of usage of the Steam logo and then decide. 
Facebook for example allows to use assets they provide.
