After the last update of my system (fedora 7, kernel 2.6.23.15-80.fc7), the
problem disappeared.
I thus confirmed that this bug is fixed in KMail 1.9.9 (kde 3.5.9-4.fc7 Fedora)
Thanks a lot! That was very annoying...
