It's only for outgoing setup, incoming has to be configured in a way it's asked by Google anyway and basically that's where this problem is happening at least for me. I have a bunch, around 10 account setup in the right way in Kontact, I have 2 step auth.. so there is no option to set less secure app in Google account but in that case it won't be necessary in theory.
