[email protected] changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |[email protected] --- Comment #108 from <mi+kde aldan algebra com> 2009-12-08 19:13:57 --- Not to insult anyone, but this bounty-talk is silly. Money sure can speed-up an open-source project, but in this case the speed of development is not the problem. The problem is absence of ANY development. It has been 5 years since the feature was requested -- tons of features were added to KDE within that time, most of them for free. Because developers wanted to do them and the architects approved of them. This feature's trouble is with the subtle ideological resistance. Stefan Gehn's comment #14 is the rare explicit statement on the matter, but it is quite apparent, that other decision-makers feel similarly and may even consider one of their own, who finally implements it, to be a "sell-out". Our measly 20-200-1000 dollars/euros aren't going to change their minds very much -- the bug already has thousands of votes, so there is no question, they know, the users want it. Even if we collect enough pledges to hire a developer just for that, chances are, his work will not be accepted by the KDE-project under some pretext or another, and the separate patches would have to be maintained separately. The pretexts wouldn't be dishonest: every new feature violates existing balance in some way, so it has to add valuable functionality to justify it. Clearly, this feature is not perceived as beneficial -- nay, it is viewed as DETRIMENTAL -- and thus it will be sincerely rejected. I'd love for this opinion of mine to turn into a self-defeating prophecy, but -- after all these years -- I'm not particularly hopeful... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug. _______________________________________________ Kdepim-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs
