I was already using that driver.   I just tried on 4.13.0-24 again and got: 
    bcmwl-kernel-source is already the newest version 
(6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu3).
    0 to upgrade, 0 to newly install, 0 to remove and 0 not to upgrade.
And it still didn't work.  

But I saw that 4.13.0-25 was available.   So I loaded that and now
things are working again.

So the issue appears fixed for me in 4.13.0-25.
