Use Ubuntu 14.04 64b or thereabouts. Add this PPA to the above and you don't have to worry about building yourself:

What Dick said about embedded development is certainly true: It's much easier when your target has full Linux system and tool services and also embedded compilers for your integrated shared memory coprocessors running the RT-tasks...
