I realized that the problems I had were compounded that prevented successful 
pcb connections.
1) Some of the library symbols that came with the install the pins were number 
alphabetically and not numerically.  This showed up as ? in the netlist.
2) Second the inverted GND triangle does not work..I swopped it for the VDD 
with the circle and it worked.
3) Somehow the netlisting in the schematic side just added to the netlist file 
so the results in the pcb was not always in sync.  When I deleted the netlist 
file it sorted many issues.  (I did have the replace modules tick on when 
importing the netlist into the pcb app.

With the flagging of incompatible connections between components I set the 
library parts to passive to avoid warnings from the erc check.  There seems to 
be a bug in this as it does not behave as I would expect anyway.
