I don't think it's you...

I use SUSE and I've a mounted volume (samba) on the SUSE desktop that's my
windows machine. I use that all the time for file transfers etc.
I've just tried with Kicad and I cannot see that volume in the
kicad file selector. It looks like Kicad does not "see" mounted network
volumes.

On the face of it, it looks like you may have found a bugette.
