Are you using KDE or Gnome desktop?
I am using KDE and I noticed that new KDE (4.x) mounts drives differently than 
3.x
and many non-KDE programs do not see them.
I think it has to do with new features (KIO kiosks or something)  of KDE that 
older programs do not support yet.
Did you try adding a symbolic link in your /mnt directory to point to where 
your share is mounted?
