In which case there is a difference between the tarballs and whoever
build the deb packages.

Both the tarballs: 
kicad-2009-02-16-final-UBUNTU_8.10.tgz
kicad-2009-02-16-final-CENTOS_4.4.tgz

Have the same structure and the install text gives the destination
as /usr/local/...  for both

So Sysadmin beware :-)

Not a huge problem providing users know about the differences.
