OK, found a workaround: - insert a module in a documentation .brd file, - edit the module, then save it to your library, - when back to the .brd file, remove the module, then reinsert the document from the newly created library.
Not efficient, but I hope I get my procedure right so my libs better support KiCad upgrades like described in the documentation.
