Noel and Lois, et. al.
I don't have much time right now. I'm packing for my little trip to Columbia.
I'm going to be doing preliminary research at the school. I start in June, and I
have so many things to do before then.
As for the questions about the King James version and the dead sea scrolls, I am
currently doing some research on them. I'll get back to you when I have something
logical. What I know off the top of my head is that the scrolls are some of the
oldest known copies of bible text known to exist. It is separated into published
and unpublished sections. However, some of the unpublished scrolls have been seen
by researchers, and several things have come out because of these scrolls. They
include several sections of the known scripture, i.e. Isaiah and Psalms. They
also include several other sections of literature. One of them, I believe,
includes a commentary of when God gave the Law to Moses . . . or perhaps when
Moses gave the Law to the people. But, the bible cannon was set by Origen,
Josephus and others of ancient times. When certain other book, that seemingly
contradict those of the original cannon, came into the spotlight . . . these were
termed apocrypha.
. . . now where was I? Oh yes, Noel . . . I'm glad you enjoy these
discussions. Since I was young, I have always had a high tolerance for others and
their ideas. It takes a great deal for me to get upset. I love debating, as long
as the discussion stays at least somewhat logical. ;-) Also, i mean do
disrespect for anyone else's faith. This goes for you Mrs. Lois. I only intend
to keep the discussion logical and reasonable. If I ever go beyond logic, please
tell me. As long as you can use logic and reason to back up your belief in an
idea . . . I will support you. I will challenge you on anything that I don't
understand, but i will support you when I see logic.
As for my sources of information, I shall attempt to compile a list of sources
that I have in my library. I also have a list of books from the public library
that I have used in the past. When I get back from my trip, I will make an
attempt to send the list. If I have a chance, I will send some tomorrow . . but
that probably will not happen. I am still packing and filling out forms that I
will need.
Please, anyone else, feel free to keep up the discussion. So, till then . . .
the library mole,
Scot
Oh yeah, some sources you may wish to check out are as follows (these are in my
personal library):
Josephus: The Essential Writings
The Complete Works of Josephus
The Role of Theology and Bias in Bible Translation (Rolf Furuli)
Theology of the Old Testament, 1883 (Gustav F. Oehler)
Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, 1980, vol 1 (Moody Bible Institute of
Chicago)
The Divine Name Controversy, 1991 (Firpo W. Carr)
The Dead Sea Scrolls--Qumran in Perspective (Fortress Press)
The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible (Charles Pfiffer)
The Septuagint Bible: The Oldest Version of the Old Testament (Charles Thomson)
The cairo Geniza (Paul Kahle)
Zeitschrift fur die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft , 1936, vol 54 (Cannon D.
William)
Strong's Concordance
Young's Analytical Concordance
W.E. Vine's Bible Dictionary
And I possess several different versions of the Scriptures. I recommend reading
more than just one version because it will give you a better and clearer
understanding of what the original text was trying to say. The King James (both
the Authorized and Revised), The NIV, Revised Standard, New World Translation, The
Living Bible, The Jerusalem bible, The Emphatic Diaglott, and William Tyndale's
Old and New Testament are all very good one's to explore.
Well, I'm gone for now. Let me know what you find out while I'm gone . . .

Scot,
WOW you are quite well educated. I respect you and your religion, now
that said. Please for give me but if you read the King James Version
of the bible it will become to apparent that the woman's role is one
under her husband..........ok this is just my understanding so i could
be wrong. I ask you next of the dead sea scrolls where in the bible
are they?? I believe the where left out as where many other books.
I will only say that I worship the greater being as male/female equal
in all things. As woman and man should be.
I think we have gone way to far here and correct me if i am wrong
raven???
I only would like respect for my beliefs and will not bash, or flame
any for theirs even if it includes my doom. For most would tell me I
am to burn in the fires of hell for what believe. Sorry I wont but i
will say Judge Ye Not lest ye be judged .
