cacti is a good start, nagios is a bit complicated but is also a good bandwidth traffic monitoring.
nagios is usually used for large monitoring.

Hmm... we just need something for which we can monitor how much
bandwidth we're using so we know if it's already maxed out and we need
more. Our router is a Cisco 1811.
