Hello everyone,

In response to the recent off-topic, non-technical, amusingly stupid,
immature, lack of focus, invasion of privacy, or
{$insert_your_favorite_complaint} here posts - I'm proposing that the
KLUG mailing list be split into two - one for "on-topic" technical
queries about Linux and free/open-source software and another for
"off-topic" threads.

I've noticed that online technical communities as they grow, tend to
have dedicated lists for non-technical posts (think of it as a place
where being off-topic is being on-topic). Below are some of the
communities I know of and the links to their non-technical lists.

PLUG - https://lists.hosting.qsr.com.ph/mailman/listinfo/plug-misc
PinoyJUG - http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/pinoyjug-chat/
SLUG - http://lists.slug.org.au/listinfo/slug-chat

My questions to the KLUG list would then be:

1. Are you in favor of splitting the list into "on topic" and "off-topic"
lists?

2. If you agree to number 1, what do we call the new list then?
(klug-misc, klug-chat, klug-nonsense, klug-offtopic, we need
suggestions?)

3. How do we populate the subscriber list of the new list?
    a. Import from the main list automatically
    b. Send an email request to each member asking them to confirm if
they want to join
    c. Have each member on the main list subscribe on his/her own to
the new list

What do you guys think?

Regards,
Matt
