You will be unable to set it to 800x600 _after_ installation if the monitor
already blacks out. The method that worked for me is to let the system boot
(even with the black screen), change consoles (CTRL+ALT+F4)  then login, use
Sax2, change the resolution via Sax2 (safest would be 800x600 or 1024x768),
save, then reboot.

The most optimal thing to do is to set the resolution to 800x600 _during_
the course of the installation since SuSE allows you to configure your
hardware during the second phase of installation. You can even test during
this part if the resolution will work or not.

SuSE has 2 installation phases. First phase does the partitioning, package
selection, and copying of files to the hard drive. The installer during this
phase runs from the installer disc. Second phase runs from the hard drive
and will be incharge of setting the accounts, and configuration of devices.
