Ive been using 'iptraf' for quite a while now. It's been great for me.
However, if it still doesn't fit the bill, you can check out Bandwidth
Monitor NG - http://freshmeat.net/projects/bwm-ng/

You can also read the great article on Bandwidth Monitoring for Linux at
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/bandwidth-monitoring-tools-for-linux.html. You'll
find some of the most popular bandwidth monitoring tools in Linux (iptraf
included).
