It's an OS alright.. it's basically just another Linux distro.. it's a Linux kernel with Chrome on top.. It's not a "new" OS built from the ground up. what I'm asking however, is why do they have to do another OS? Why not just use Android.. given that it already works for smartphones, why not just port it for netbooks?

I say we enjoy what Google's new product has to offer. However, I think we should start asking ourselves again "What is an OS?" "What does an OS do?" Then start thinking again if indeed Google "OS" _is in fact_ an OS. The idea for net books, net tops etc isn't entirely new. I've seen a few units from NEC, etc a couple of years ago using the same idea of "everything on the internet" with the backing from Netscape. But then again, back then AJAX, and others were not yet born and the idea of "everything on the internet" at that time was too ahead of its time. Which brings me back to my question if indeed it is an OS, or does it qualify per existing definition of what an OS is. On Wed, Jul 8, 2009 at 8:29 PM, Brent P.
