Network Software Systems Programmer

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in
a technical discipline.

Preferred Professional Qualifications: Should have completed ACF/VTAM
- *Advanced
Communications Function for the Virtual Telecommunications Access
Method*and TCP/IP systems programming courses.

*Knowledge is expected in the following products and disciplines: *

VTAM, TCP/IP (Telnet, FTP, SMTP), NCP, Connect: Enterprise, Connect:
Mailbox, VPS, Netview, Session Managers, Enterprise Extender



Job Description and Required Knowledge:

·         The Networking Systems programmer for z/OS will have the necessary
qualifications and knowledge to perform the following responsibilities:

·         Manage and maintain ACF/VTAM environment as well as the connection
to the TCP/IP Network.

·         Will be responsible for network performance management, and be
able to conduct problem determination activities for network related issues.


·         Make necessary changes to the network both on VTAM and the
Mainframe part of the TCP/IP network, prepare test and roll-back procedures
for changes made.

·         Prepare plans, in consultation with the z/OS systems programmers
to keep the VTAM specifications and TCP/IP definitions up to date.

·         Ensure that changes are made based on established procedures and
change ITIL based management.

·         Participate and provide full cooperation to the proper systems
programming team for major system changes that includes VTAM and TCP/IP
changes.

·         Carry out troubleshooting and network debugging using industry
best practices for any problem found in the operation of Mainframe network.

·         Participate in any problem determination activities that may not
directly be due to VTAM or TCP/IP in the Mainframe but is likely to involve
or impact the network.

·         Follow appropriate procedures invoking change management to make
proper changes to resolve the problem.

·         If necessary, follow established procedures to open a ticket with
the appropriate software vendor.

·         Follow up with the vendor until the problem is resolved.

·         Maintain complete documentation of the network and network
attached nodes showing network relationships with other networks and the
network backbone. Liaise with relevant software vendor technical specialists
for up to date information on products installed.

·         Find tips and ways how to improve the network performance in the
Mainframe environment. Establish a thorough understanding of the relevant
software vendors’ procedures and disciplines for software update, upgrades,
patches and temporary fixes.

·         Perform any other activities and responsibilities deemed necessary
for proper and efficient operation of the Mainframe network and consequently
the overall systems environment.
