Bernard,

My recommendation would be to assign all items in one 'section' of the
library to one item type, and base the rules on that.  Then, for your
patron's searching, use the Collection Code to designate item 'types' like
Book, DVD, VHS, Oversize, etc... you can make the Collection Codes appear as
the search limiter using the AdvancedSearchTypes system preference.
