On the 6th of April in Almaty was arrested the leader of the Kazakhstan
Workers' Movement Madel Ismailov. He was charged with organizing illegal
meeting on the 30th of January this year. The meeting was organized in order
to protest against anti-workers policy of the Kazakh goverment and its plans
for further social and economic reforms that will make already misirable
life of millions of Kazakhstan workers absolutely impossible. It was a
peaceful rally but police assaulted the demonstration and tried to arrest
Ismailov. The leader of the Workers' Movement was defended by the
participants and escaped from the police.
Acording to the acting Kazakhstan law one can't be arrested for such a
"transgression" after two months have passed. But the Amlaty authority did
not hesitate to break the law and Ismailov was arrested 3 month later. On
the very same day he was sentenced to 15 days of imprisonment.
Last year Ismailov was set free after a year in prison "for insulting the
President".
