>
> MOSCOW, May 15 (Tanjug) - Yugoslav Foreign Minister Zivadin
>Jovanovic held talks in Moscow on Monday with the president of the Russian
>State Duma, Gennady Sleznyov, and with the president of that house's comittee
>for cooperation with Yugoslavia, Nikolai Rizhkov.
>
> In the talks was fully confirmed the mutual readiness for further
>enhancing and upgrading political dialogue and the traditional friendship and
>close relations and cooperation between Yugoslavia and Russian in all spheres.
>
>
> Greeting the Yugoslav minister, Seleznyov expressed to him
>gratitude for coming to the Russian State Duma, which after the change of
>deputies in new session firmly decided, just as it has done so far, to lend
>all-out support to Yugoslavia and its people in the fight for preserving
>sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, and to the reconstruction
>of the country.
>
> Seleznyov said he was confident that the Russian government would
>soon formulate its clear policy towards Yugoslavia.
>
> He agreed entirely with Jovanovic's assessment that the West and
>NATO were deceiving the world public about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija
>and was critical about their intention to call elections in that Serbian
>province, assessing that NATO's policy in Kosovo-Metohija runs counter
>integrationist processes in Europe.
>
> If the integrity of Yugoslavia is not preserved, that will put in
>jeopardy the entire process of integration which, apparently, is a hindrance
>to the West and NATO for realizing their plans, Seleznyov said.
>
> Jovanovic pointed out that NATO's aggression on Yugoslavia was
>continuing, by others, but not les dangerous means than military. That is in
>the first place reflected in the support to separatism and terrorism in
>Kosovo-Metohija, which has been turned into a center for organized crime and
>terrorism and where there is the largest concentration of lawlessness in
>Europe, Jovanovic said, underlining particularly the non-implementation of
>Resolution 1244 on Kosovo and Metohija.
>
> Yugoslavia is opposing all that by increased efforts in the
>reconstruction and building of the country and has already, after rebuilding
>basic infrastructure, turned to the modernization of technology and
>production, Jovanovic said.
>
> Speaking about the growing support to Yugoslavia in the world, he
>noted that since the beginning of the year he had visited already 15 countries
>that support the Yugoslav government in its policy of open cooperation with
>all those that accept it as an equal partner.
>
> The minister underlined the strategic commitment to include
>Yugoslavia into European integration processes, as another response to
>pressures and the aggression.
>
> During the talks about ways of speeding up and enhancing the
>process of integration of Yugoslavia with the Union of Russia and Belarus,
>Seleznyov informed Jovanovic about the intention that at the upcoming session
>of the parliamentary assembly of the union be made concrete steps for speeding
>up the Russian-Belarus integration.
>
> From the development of that process depends also the process of
>integration of other countries in the union, the Duma president said.
>
> Chairman of the committee for cooperation with Yugoslavia Nikolai
>Ryshkov informed Jovanovic that a delegation of that body would visit
>Yugoslavia on May 24 and asked the Yugoslav leadership to make possible also a
>visit to Kosovo and Metohija.
>
> The guest from Yugoslavia, before talks in the Duma, visited the
>memorial center in Poklona Gora on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the
>victory over fascism and visited the church built there, in which a mass
>service is held every day for those killed in WW II.

>
> MOSCOW, May 16 (Tanjug) - Yugoslav Foreign Minister Zivadin
>Jovanovic began talks with his host Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov in
>Moscow on Tuesday. Welcoming the guest, Ivanov underscored that Russia
>considers Yugoslavia an important partner in the Balkans and urged
>comprehensive and wide cooperation between the two countries.
>
> Saying that he had not met with his Yugoslav counterpart for a
>long time, Ivanov said he was certain today's talks would enable a
>consideration of a wide complex of bilateral and international issues of
>interest to Russia and Yugoslavia.
>
> It is important that we consider the situation in the Balkans, so
>that we can continue to help in the resolving of matters of stability in that
>region, Ivanov said, underscoring that this was of great interest not only for
>the Balkans, but for all of Europe as well.
>
> We will try to consider also other important topics in as much
>detail as possible, even though we have very close stands on many issues, such
>as the role and importance of the United Nations and a series of international
>problems, Ivanov said.
>
> Agreeing with Ivanov's statement that they had not met in a long
>time, Minister Jovanovic said the two of them would really have much to talk
>about, all toward making a contribution to the development and deepening of
>the traditionally good and friendly relations between Yugoslavia and Russia.
>
> Russia is for us a strategically important partner and that is why
>we are here - in order to promote and raise to a higher level the political
>dialogue and cooperation in economy, science, technology, and all other areas,
>Jovanovic said.
>
> After these introductory statements, the ministers and delegation
>members continued the dialogue in private. A joint press conference has been
>set for this afternoon, after a working lunch which Ivanov will give in honour
>of his Yugoslav guest.

>Jovanovic conferred in Moscow on Tuesday with Russian Economy Minister Andrei
>Shapovalanec, who co-chairs the Yugoslav-Russian inter-governmental commission
>for economic cooperation.
>
> The two ministers held a brief press conference devoted to the
>results of the meeting. They expressed hope that today's talks would
>contribute to the further promotion and deepening of economic and general
>cooperation between Yugoslavia and Russia.
>
> Asked by a Russian reporter to evaluate the current level of
>economic cooperation between the two countries, Jovanovic said Yugoslavia
>views this cooperation as positive, but said he was confident there were still
>great untapped possibilities for its expansion both in scale and quality.
>
> Yugoslavia is undergoing a process of renewal, reconstruction and
>reforms, which opens vast possibilities for the engagement of businessmen from
>the Russian federation, Jovanovic said. A great advantage is also the
>traditional friendship which characterizes relations between Yugoslavia and
>Russia on the global scale, he said.
>
> Jovanovic emphasized that he expected today's talks with the
>Russian minister of economy would enable a more efficient utilization of the
>commodities credit which Russia has approved for Yugoslavia.

> INCREASINGLY FREQUENT ATTACKS ON YUGOSLAV ARMY BY MONTENEGRIN HIGH
>OFFICIALS
>
> BELGRADE, May 16 (Tanjug) - Attacks and unargumented accusations
>are increasingly frequently aimed at the Yugoslav Army, spearheaded, in the
>past few days, by high officials of the Montenegrin republican authorities,
>the Information Service of the Yugoslav Army General Staff said on Tuesday.
>
> They accuse the Yugoslav Army of failing to respect the Yugoslav
>Constitution, of allegedly having insurgent intentions, and of being
>instrumentalized, consequently, of threatening the stability of the Republic
>of Montenegro.
>
> Practice so far shows that these and similar propaganda
>constructions are, regrettably, similar to those at the time of the NATO
>aggression on Yugoslavia.
>
> The Yugoslav Army absolutely rejects these and similar accusations
>because they are untrue, malicious and aimed at destabilizing the state and
>weakening the combat readiness of the army.
>
> The Yugoslav Army is carrying out its duties strictly in keeping
>with the Yugoslav Constitution and federal laws, of which the public is well
>aware. Those who attack and unfoundedly accuse it actually act in the opposite
>manner.
>
> Certain persons from the Montenegrin leadership prefer the role of
>arbitrating rather than financing the Yugoslav Army. They decided, in
>violation of the Constitution and the laws, not to take part in the financing
>of defense and the Army, trying in this way as well to weaken the defense
>capabilities of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
>
> The Yugoslav Army is truly an army of the people, and, as such, it
>is familiar with the feelings harboured by the people and citizens toward it
>and national defense in general.
>
> The people and citizens of Montenegro best demonstrated their
>stand toward the Yugoslav Army and national defense during the NATO aggression
>on Yugoslavia through condemnations of the aggression, response to
>mobilization summons, and support and help to the Army. The people demonstrate
>their cooperation with the Army also through their response to all forms of
>training of reserve structures, response to service in the armed forces, and
>unreserved support to the realization of preparations for defending the
>fatherland from new onslaughts.
>
> The Yugoslav Army and citizens are aware that the attacks and
>accusations serve outside and inside factors whose objectives were not
>realized even during the NATO aggression on Yugoslavia.
>
> The Yugoslav Army does not wish to keep silent about this, and, in
>addition to continuing to inform the public about the truth, it will duly and
>completely carry our its obligations and tasks in keeping with the
>Constitution, the General Staff statement concluded.

>
> BEIJING, May 16 (Tanjug) - Yugoslav minister in charge of
>international cultural and scientific cooperation Cedomir Mirkovic said that
>his main impression from the just completed visit to China is the huge moral
>and political capital the world is attributing to the fact that Yugoslavia
>defended its country from NATO aggressors.
>
> Talking to Tanjug's correspondent in Beijing, Minister Mirkovic
>pointed to the important Chinese support to Yugoslavia in the defense from
>aggressors, and later in the defense of the country, and to the readiness of
>China to continue with that support.
>
> Mirkovic assessed that the "presentation of Yugoslav culture was
>excellent," and that the Belgrade Philharmonic that performed three concerts
>in China, with opera stars Radmila Bakocevic and Jadranka Jovanovic, received
>ovations in Beijing, Shenjang and Dalijen.
>
> Also very successful was an exhibition of contemporary Yugoslav
>art, said Mirkovic and added that Days of Yugoslav Culture in China represent

>with the U.N. mission in Kosovo and Metohija province on Tuesday sent a

>statement by Ethem Cheku, the head of the joint local administration of Pec,
>who said displaced Serbs would not be allowed to return to that area.
>
> The protest pointed out the tolerant stand of UNMIK and KFOR
>toward daily demonstrations by ethnic Albanian extremists against the return
>of Serbs and other non-Albanians to the areas of Pec and Istok.
>
> Cheku's statement and the demonstrations are a reflection of the
>policy of ethnic cleansing practised against Serbs and other non-Albanians,
>and the intention of ethnic Albanian terrorists and separatists to legalize
>the existing situation in the southern Serbian province, from which about
>350,000 Serbs and other non-Albanians have been expelled.
>
> The protest underscored that UNMIK and KFOR are doing nothing to
>calm nationalist passions and are in fact encouraging, with their silence,

>ethnically pure Kosovo and Metohija.
>
> The protest declared unacceptable the filling of leading positions
