The dictatorship of the vast majority

. This was President Fidel Castro's response to attacks on the Cuban system

IT is easier to put an end to a political system than to build a new one. The
biggest credit to a people is the construction of a new political, economic and
social system, and we are still learning, said President Fidel Castro. He made
these comments during the closing session of the 9th Campesino Congress held
in Havana, which was attended by more than 800 representatives of this sector
together with guests from 15 Latin American countries, the United States and
Spain.
Fidel went on to say that this is a Revolution for all citizens, which is the secret

Referring to accusations that a dictatorship exists in Cuba, Fidel answered that
here we have a dictatorship of the vast majority of the people. The dictatorship of

with a different uniform," the biggest single party state in the world. That is not
democracy. He pointed out that the presidential system of that nation is a disaster
and remarked that the Caribbean's parliamentary system is better because the
government enjoys consensus.
As for the battle of ideas waged by the Cuban people for Elin's return, the
president said that we are prepared, if necessary, to wage a battle twice as strong
and more efficient than the one carried out over the last five months.
Referring to agriculture, Fidel commented that a test of strength over recent years
is the sugar industry. He explained that the current price of sugar is half of what it
was at the start of the special period and that the country had subsidized this
sector to prevent the half a million people working in it from being laid off. This is
