Communist Web Friday 26th May 2000 9.30pm gmt 'Vietnam Day' in the French Senate The France-Vietnam friendship senators hosted a seminar on the renovation policy of Vietnam entitled 'Vietnam Day' on May 24 in Paris to mark the visit of Communist Party of Vietnam general secretary, Le Kha Phieu. French Senate Chairman Christian Poncelet addressed to open the seminar and expressed his happiness to receive the general secretary in France and at the Senate to attend the 'Vietnam Day.' French senators and Vietnamese senior delegates had an opportunity to exchange ideas frankly and openly with a view to strengthening relations and raising the efficiency of co-operation between Vietnam and France. Mr Poncelet spoke highly of the address by General Secretary Le Kha Phieu and thanked the general secretary for his sentiment and high appreciation of the French people and land. In a meeting with Mr Poncelet later, General Secretary Le Kha Phieu confirmed that in spite of the up and down in the history of relations between the two countries, the Vietnamese people do not now have any complex with France and believe that better relations will quickly boost effective co-operation the two countries. The French senate chairman and other senators highlighted that Vietnam plays an important role in south-east Asia and France wished that Vietnam would use its influence to help France boost co-operative relations in the region. France, in turn, promised to help Vietnam strengthen relations with Europe.
