Nilda Medina, portavoz del Comit�, se�al� que �existe amplia evidencia cient�fica sobre el grave peligro que presenta el bombardeo - con cualquier tipo de artefactos - por la dispersi�n al aire de las sustancias contaminantes que se mueven directamente de la zona de tiro al sector civil. Toda la informaci�n cient�fica nos asegura que el reinicio del bombardeo aumentar� el c�ncer y la muerte de nuestra gente. Seg�n comunicaci�n recibida de la Junta de Planificaci�n (JP) fechada el 14 de junio y enviada a Medina, la JP inform� de la intenci�n de la Marina para realizar durante 2 a 6 d�as el �ejercicios que consisten en disparar 600 balas inertes de cinco pulggadas desde cinco embarcaciones y el lanzamiento de 550-830 bombas inertes desde aviones al �rea viva de impacto en Vieques.� El documento, firmado por el Secretario de la JP, Max L. Vidal V�zquez, indica que la Marina planifica comenzar el bombardeo aproximadamente el 21 de junio de 2000. El anuncio de la Marina sobre los ejercicos de bombardeo coincidi� con varias accones de desobediencia civil en que decenas de puertorrique�os, incluyendo profesionales, deportistas y m�dicos entraron a la zona restringida a la Marina. Adem�s, la notificaci�n de la Marina llega en el momento en que el Lcdo. Robert Kennedy, hijo y un equipo legal del Concilio en Defensa de los Recursos Naturales (EU) se reunen con lideres de la comunidad de Vieques sobre un caso que dirige Kennedy en contra del bombardeo en la Isla Nena.
