IRAQI VICE-PRESIDENT RECEIVES YUGOSLAV MINISTER

BAGHDAD - Iraqi Vice-President Taha Yassin Ramadan
received Serbian
Minister of Science and Technology Branislav Ivkovic
in Baghdad on
                        Thursday.
Ivkovic spoke in detail about the successes in
Yugoslavia's
renewal and reconstruction in the past year, since
the NATO
                        aggression.
                           Ramadan praised Yugoslav successes in
reconstruction and drew a
parallel with similar actions in Iraq after the
aggression on that
country. He said freedom-loving Yugoslavia and Iraq
thus carried off
victories in their decisive battles to preserve
national identity
                        and sovereignty.
The talks also covered the role of science and
technological
development, which had in both countries been placed
under an
embargo with which the common enemy is trying to deny
the peoples of
Yugoslavia and Iraq the right to free and unhindered
development. In
spite of these unfavorable circumstances, the sectors
of science and
technology in these two countries managed to keep up
with current
developments in this area in the world, and the sides
agreed the
planned mutual cooperation would create conditions
for the two
                        countries' further development.

RUSSIAN PATRIARCH VOICES SUPPORT TO SERBIAN PEOPLE

MOSCOW - Kosovo and Metohija is a place where
genocide is committed
not only against the Serbian people, but also against
culture and
civilization in general, Patriarch of Moscow and All
Russia Alexei
II said in a special TV appearance late Thursday.
The patriarch voiced support to the Serbian people
in this
southern province of the Yugoslav republic of Serbia,
and their
struggle for preserving freedom, dignity and
independence.
In a show broadcast on Russian TV channel 1,
Patriarch Alexei II
commented on documentary films on destroyed Orthodox
churches in
Kosovo and Metohija and other barbaric actions by
ethnic Albanian
                        terrorists.
The patriarch said the so-called Kosovo Liberation
Army (KLA), an
ethnic Albanian terrorist organization, was chiefly
responsible for
the evils committed in the province, which he said
has become a
center of terrorism, crime and drug smuggling.
Patriarch Alexei II also underscored that he would
use his
influence and try to secure that Russian President
Vladimir Putin
and Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov take a more
determined stand in
providing support to Yugoslavia and the Serbian
people.

RUSSKAYA GAZETA - NATO RESPONSIBLE FOR DISRESPECT OF
                        RESOLUTION 1244

MOSCOW - Violence against Serbs continues in Kosovo
and Metohija and
the key articles of United Nations Security Council
Resolution 1244
are not respected, the Russian daily Russkaya Gazeta
said on Friday.
Serbs are killed in the southern Serbian province
simply for
being Serbs, the daily said. Even U.N.
Secretary-General Kofi Annan
himself had to admit there was an organized campaign
to expel Serbs
from the province, the article said.
Russkaya Gazeta said NATO strategists and
politicians were
responsible for the lack of respect for the relevant
Security
Council resolution. In order to realize their
strategic goals, they
allowed ethnic Albanians to do what they are now
doing in Kosovo and
                        Metohija, the daily said.
No stories about alleged ethnic cleansing or
democratization, or
a struggle against the Belgrade authorities "can
cover up the main
objective to which NATO is aspiring - primarily to
impose its own
will upon a sovereign state, using violence, when it
assaults a part
of its territory in spite of the stand of its
leadership," Russkaya
                        Gazeta said.

HAGUE TRIBUNAL - A CORRUPT INSTITUTION WHICH SHOULD BE
                        BOYCOTTED

ROME - When The Hague tribunal Chief Prosecutor Carla
Del Ponte
recently addressed the United Nations Security
Council, saying she
had decided against opening an investigation into
NATO's crimes in
Yugoslavia, she made it blatantly obvious that the
tribunal is a
corrupt institution which should be ignored and
boycotted by the
governments of all democratic and western countries,
Canadian lawyer
Michael Mandel said in an interview to the Rome daily
Il Manifesto.
Mandel has filed charges against 68 NATO leaders
for the crimes
                        committed in Yugoslavia.
Del Ponte's decision not to open an investigation
into NATO's
evident crimes in Yugoslavia also inflicted severe
damage to
                        international affairs, Mandel said.
The tribunal decision annuls the value of all
norms which
regulate actions in war. It annuls the United Nations
Charter, it
annuls the Geneva Convention. There remains only the
validity and
legitimacy of the policy of the strong against the
weak, the
                        Canadian lawyer said.
Mandel said the alleged humanitarian intervention
had in fact
been anti-humane, and that last year's aggression on
Yugoslavia had
been provoked by NATO, in order to make the United
Nations lose
face, and by the United States in order to test new
weapons and
prove that it can get away with anything.

PRESIDENT MILOSEVIC RECEIVES IRAQI MINISTER SALEH

BELGRADE - Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic on
Friday received
co-chairman of the Iraqi-Yugoslav Mixed Committee for
Economic,
                        Scientific-Technical and Trade Cooperation, Iraqi
Minister Mohammed
Mehdi Saleh, who is visiting Yugoslavia for the 18th
committee
                        session.
Economic cooperation between Yugoslavia ad Iraq is
developing
intensely and, during the Belgrade session, the sides
defined
directions in which the common interests of partners
of the two
countries would further be realized, it was concluded.
Yugoslavia and Iraq are determined in their
struggle against the
policy of hegemony, it was heard in talks.
SERBIAN MINISTER SAYS STATE RESOLUTE TO ERADICATE
                        TERRORISM

VELIKO GRADISTE - Serbia's interior minister said on
Thursday
efforts are still being made from abroad to cause
disturbances and
inculcate distrust in the government, but the state
is determined to
                        eradicate crime and terrorism.
Vlajko Stojiljkovic was visiting Veliko Gradiste
in the east of
                        the Yugoslav republic of Serbia.
"Terrorism in our country is practiced through the
                        terrorist-fascist organisation Otpor (Resistance) and
some
non-governmental organisations which are in fact
western
                        intelligence outfits.
"Our response to these attempts is to mobilise and
work harder,
so as to raise the living standards of the people,"
Stojiljkovic
                        said.
DRAFTS OF PENAL CODE AMENDMENTS, ANTI-TERRORISM LAW
                        WITHDRAWN

BELGRADE - Yugoslav government representative Vladan
Kutlesic on
Friday informed deputies in both chambers of the
federal parliament
that the government has taken off the agenda of
today's session the
draft anti-terrorism law and the draft amendments to
the penal code.
At the beginning of separate sessions of the
chambers, Kutlesic
explained the move came after consultations between
deputy clubs of
the political parties which make up the federal
government.
The deputy clubs, as well as the parliament
working bodies, have
given their support in principle to the two drafts,
but a series of
useful suggestions came up in the debates. Changes
should be
processed quickly and the drafts sent back to
parliament in a few
                        days' time, Kutlesic said.
                        YUGOSLAV PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION UPHOLDS
                        ANTI-TERRORISM BILL

BELGRADE - The Legal Commission of the Yugoslav
parliament on
Thursday upheld the government's anti-terrorism bill.
The commission took the view that Yugoslavia has
for more than 10
years been exposed to all kinds of aggression and it
is high time
legal norms were passed to regulate the matters of
state and civic
                        security.
Justice Minister Petar Jojic said the government
had proposed the
bill because of great pressure being brought to bear
on Yugoslavia
and numerous grave terrorist crimes perpetrated on
Yugoslav
                        territory over the past years.
                           These directly jeopardised Yugoslavia's
constitutional order and
territorial integrity, the integrity of the Yugoslav
republics of
Serbia and Montenegro, the security of the people and
all valuable
achievements of the state, Jojic said.
In proposing the bill, the government had in mind
the wave of
violence that is spreading and threatening the
security and
democratic development of Yugoslavia, he explained.
He noted that many countries - such as Canada,
Germany, Italy,
Spain, Switzerland, the United States - have similar
laws, much
stricter than the one proposed by the Yugoslav
government.
He went on to say that the proposed regulations do
not infringe
on the constitutional rights of the people or
threaten their rights
                        and liberties.
"With this law, we wish to wage war on terrorism",
Jojic said,
stressing that it must not be allowed that Yugoslavia
should be
turned into a rifle range for terrorists.
YUGOSLAV OFFICIAL INSISTS SERBS IN KOSOVO-METOHIJA
                        STILL VICTIMISED

BELGRADE, June 29 (Tanjug) - Security is a major
problem in U.N.-run
                        Kosovo-Metohija, with murders, abductions and
robberies targetting
Serbs and other non-Albanians a daily occurrence,
according to a
                        Yugoslav official on Thursday.
Ambassador Stanimir Vukicevic, who chairs the
Yugoslav
government's committee liaising with the U.N. mission
(UNMIK) to
that province of the Yugoslav republic of Serbia, was
speaking for
                        Belgrade state radio.
"KFor (international force) and UNMIK assure us
that they will
try everyting and take resolute steps to protect the
remaining Serbs
adequately. We would like to see this happen, but so
far it appears
that their steps have been less than successful",
Vukicevic said.
About 130,000 Serbs remain in Kosovo-Metohija, or
barely
one-third of the original Serb community, while more
than two-thirds
of the Serb population have fled, according to
Vukicevic.
He warned that U.N. Resolution 1244 on
Kosovo-Metohija is not
being consistently implemented in the part where it
provides for the
safety of the people, securing of peace, stability
and safety for
                        all in Kosovo-Metohija.
He especially drew attention to violations of the
Resolution in
the section where it calls for respecting
Yugoslavia's sovereignty
and territorial integrity, and largely blamed UNMIK
chief Bernard
Kouchner for this state of affairs.
Vukicevic went on to say that Kouchner has signed
a number of
decrees which are in direct violation of the
Resolution in the
section where it guarantees Yugoslavia's sovereignty
and territorial
                        integrity.
He especially stressed that frequent visits to
Kosovo-Metohija by
officials of international organisations and foreign
states without
competent Yugoslav and Serbian authorities' approval
violate
Yugoslavia's sovereignty and the Vienna diplomatic
convention.
Speaking about future relations between the
Yugoslav liaison
committee and the U.N. peace mission to
Kosovo-Metohija, he said the
Committee plans to establish constructive cooperation
with UNMIK and
KFor and actively work with them to settle the
province's problem.
"We have recently even offered to UNMIK an accord
on setting up a
joint body to examine all questions covered by
Resolution 1244, and
we hope that UNMIK will correctly interpret our
intentions", he
                        said.
He explained that the text of the accord should be
further
coordinated, to provide a basic document for future
cooperation
between the Yugoslav liaison committee and UNMIK.

                        KOSOVO ALBANIANS AGAINST KFOR

PRISTINA - For the first time since the arrival of
international
forces KFOR in Serbia's Kosovo and Metohija province
(June 10,
1999), ethnic Albanians protested against this
foreign presence,
although they had enthusiastically welcomed the
foreign troops on
                        their arrival.
The protest was in reaction to a KFOR action in
mid-June in the
central area of Drenica, when large quantities of
concealed arms
were discovered. The ensuing investigation showed
that the weapons
had belonged to the allegedly disbanded ethnic
Albanian terrorist
organization, the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
KFOR spokesman Rune Haarstad said about 1,000
demonstrators
blocked the road Glogovac-Pec near Lapusnica with
trucks. They
carried posters with slogans "KFOR get out of Kosovo"
and "The
weapons belong to Albanians," he said.

RUSSIAN-YUGOSLAV BUSINESSMEN'S ASSOCIATION FORMED

MOSCOW - A Protocol was signed in Moscow on Thursday
on setting up a
                        Russian-Yugoslav Businessmen's Association.
The main task of the Association is to set up
direct contacts and
launch concrete projects for promoting economic
cooperation between
                        the two countries.
The Association was founded by the Yugoslav
Council for
Management and the Russian Association of
Industrialists and
                        Entrepreneurs, whose respective presidents Milija
Zecevic and
                        Arkadiy Volsky signed the Protocol.
PAVLICEVIC - A GOOD YEAR FOR THE ECONOMY

JAGODINA - Serbian Chamber of Commerce President
Momir Pavlicevic
said on Thursday that the republic's economy was
successfully
realizing its production plans and that results were
better than
expected in many companies in the first six months of
this year.
"It can be expected that the positive trends will
continue and,
if the planned results in agriculture are realized,
this will be one
of the best years," Pavlicevic told Tanjug.
Pavlicevic said there were serious difficulties in
economic
relations with the world "since foreign trade is not
proceeding as
planned because of the pressures on our country."
"Our answer to the economic, political and
military pressures to
which Serbia is unjustly exposed is to work more and
produce more,"
Pavlicevic said. "We have enough strength, knowledge
and skill for
this," he said, which is proven in the renewal of the
traffic and
                        power infrastructure, apartment building and
reconstruction of
companies damaged in last year's NATO aggression on
Yugoslavia
                        (March-June).
