Jornada intensa de actividades y visitas en
Vieques
Con el inicio de las maniobras de la Marina de Guerra de E.U. en
Vieques hoy, el pueblo de Vieques comienza una intensa jornada de acciones de
protesta, reuniones y visitas de delegaciones de solidaridad de Puerto Rico,
Estados Unidos y de otros países.
Hoy en la noche los viequenses participarán en una Asamblea de
Pueblo frente a los portones de Campamento García convocado por el Comité Pro
Rescate y Desarrollo de Vieques (CPRDV). Los grupos que trabajan en Vieques en
contra de la Marina iniciaron un intenso calendario de reuniones para poner los
últimos toques al plan de acciones diseñado a obstaculizar las maniobras y
reenfocar la atención de la prensa hacia el tema de Vieques.
Delegaciones de Aguadilla y de Todo Cayey con Vieques estarán en
el Campamento Justicia y Paz para compartir con los viequenses en lucha durante
el fin de semana. Miembros de la Junta Directiva de la Coordinadora Todo Puerto
Rico con Vieques se reunirán con representantes de las organizaciones
comunitarias de la Isla Nena el sábado.
Durante el fin de semana estarán de visita en Vieques lideres
comunitarios coreanos en contra del bombardeo que realiza la Fuerza Aerea de EU
en ese país. Esta visita amplía las relaciones entre la lucha de Vieques y las
comunidades en Asia que sufren otros atropellos de los militares
estadounidenses. El CPRDV mantiene una comunicación regular con organizaciones
en Okinawa, Hawaíi y las Filipinas que enfrentan serios problemas de
contaminación militar y otros abusos a los derechos civiles e humanos a
consecuencia de la presencia bélica.
A mediados de agosto llegan delegaciones de pacifistas y
personas comprometidas con la desmilitarización y la descontaminación de
Vieques. El Fellowship of Reconciliation (Hermandad de Reconciliación) junto al
Proyecto Caribeño de Justicia y Paz coordina la llegada a Puerto Rico y a
Vieques de delegados de varios países asiáticos y latinoamericanos. Una
delegación de puertorriqueños y norteamericanos del área de Nueva Inglaterra
(Connecticut, New Hampshire y Vermont) también visitará a la Isla Nena este mes
para apoyar la lucha por la Paz de Vieques.

PRESS RELEASE Intense program of protest activities and visits in
Vieques
As US Navy maneuvers begin today on Vieques, the people of the
town begin an intense schedule of protest actions, meetings and visits from
solidarity delegations from Puerto Rico, the US and other countries.
Viequenses will participate tonight in a People´s Assembly
organized by the Committee for the Rescue and Development of Vieques (CRDV) in
front of the gate to the Navy´s Camp García. Groups in Vieques that work to end
the Navy presence here began a busy calendar of meetings to put the final
touches on the community plan of actions disigned to block the maneuvers and
focus press attention on the issue of Vieques.
Delegations from the Puerto Rican towns of Aguadilla and Cayey,
in solidarity with the struggle of Vieques, will be at the Peace and Justice
Camp this weekend to lend support. Member of the Board of Directors of the
Coordinating Committee All Puerto Rico with Vieques will meet with
representatives of the Vieques community organizations on Saturday.
During the week end, a press crew and community leaders from
Korea who struggle against US Air Force bombing in their town will be in
Vieques. This visit strengthens the relations between the struggle in Vieques
and communities throughout Asia that suffer from US military abuses. The CRDV
maintains regular communication with organizations in Okinawa, Hawaii and the
Phillipines plagued by serious military contamination and constant violations of
civil and human rights as a result of the military presence.
In the middle of August two delegations of pacifists and people
committed to the demilitarization and decontamination of Vieques arrive on the
island. The Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Caribbean Project for Peace and
Justice coordinate the visit to Puerto Rico and Vieques of several Asian and
Latin American delegates. Another group arrives from New England (Vermont, New
Hampshire and Connecticut) comprised of Puerto Ricans and North Americans who
will come to support the Vieques cause.
