He was speaking at a cordial reception extended to the >delegation, led by Mr Oleg Shenin, chairman of the Union Council in Hanoi on >August 24. The delegation's visit is being made at the invitation of the >Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee. The Party chief expressed the >gratitude of the Communist Party and people of Vietnam for the fine >sentiments, the valuable support and assistance which communists and all >peoples of the former Soviet Union had given to the Vietnamese people in their >struggles for national liberation and unification as well as to the present >national reconstruction and defence. He affirmed that the Communist Party and >people of Vietnam have always attached importance to strengthening and >developing those beautiful traditional relations. Mr Shenin thanked the >Vietnam Communist Party for the invitation and warm reception extended to the >delegation and for the pure and faithful sentiments of the Party and people of >Vietnam to communists and all people of the former Soviet Union. He expressed >his elation at visiting Vietnam and spoke highly of the achievements recorded >by the Vietnamese people in the national renovation process. He wished the >Vietnamese people greater achievements under the leadership of the Communist >Party of Vietnam. A Vietnamese delegation led by Mr Pham The Duyet, permanent >member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo, and the Russian delegation >held talks on the same day. The two parties informed each other on the current >situation in their respective countries, and exchanged notes on international >issues of common concern. They discussed measures to further enhance >friendship and co-operation between the two countries. During their stay in >Vietnam, the Russian guests paid floral tributes at Lenin Statue and Ho Chi >Minh Mausoleum.
