Kim Jong Il receives message of greetings from Russian President
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received
a message of greetings from
President of the Russian Federation V. Putin on Sept. 1 with the approach
of the 52nd anniversary of the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea.
V. Putin in his message extended heartfelt congratulations to Kim Jong
Il on the occasion of the anniversary of the
DPRK, its National Day.
He expressed the belief that the good neighborly relations and the
constructive bilateral cooperation between the
two countries would successfully develop in different fields in the future,
too, on the basis of long-standing experience
and tradition of friendship and cooperation in accordance with the welfare
of the Russian and Korean peoples.
I think the development of bilateral ties in depth will contribute to
consolidating peace, stability and security on the
Korean peninsula and in all other areas of northeast Asia, the message said.
It wished Kim Jong Il good health and success and the Korean people
peace and prosperity.
52nd DPRK birthday observed in India and France
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- A celebration meeting, gathering,
photo exhibition and film show were held
in India on Aug. 29 and 30 on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Exhibited at the venues were photos showing the immortal exploits of
the President Kim Il Sung and General
Secretary Kim Jong Il.
The chairman of the Indian Committee for Supporting Korea's
Reunification, the chairman of the All India
Indo-Korean Friendship Association and other speakers at the functions paid
humble homage to Kim Il Sung, founder
of the DPRK, on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the DPRK and
pointed out that he built a peculiar socialist
state centred on the popular masses.
They said the revolutionary cause of Juche started by Kim Il Sung has
been successfully carried forward by Kim
Jong Il and the DPRK is now shining all over the world as a powerful
country with independence in politics,
self-support in the economy and self-reliance in national defence.
Under the leadership of Kim Jong Il the DPRK will shine long as Kim Il
Sung'S. Korea, the homeland of Juche,
they stressed.
Meanwhile, a Korean film show of "Comrade Kim Il Sung Will Always Be
With Humankind" was held in France
on Aug. 25.
Acting secretary of Libyan people's bureau gives party
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- Taher al Muhdi Arifa, acting secretary
of the people's bureau of the Great
Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya in Pyongyang, gave a party on
Monday on the occasion of the 31st
anniversary of the great September 1st Revolution in Libya.
Invited to the party were Kim Yong Dae, vice-president of the presidium
of the DPRK Supreme People's
Assembly, Kang Jong Mo, Minister of Foreign Trade, Pak Tong Chun,
vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, officials
concerned and foreign diplomatic envoys here.
Speeches were made there.
Japan's double-dealing attitude
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today comments on the
Japanese side's double-dealing attitude
concerning the recent 10th round of the DPRK-Japan intergovernmental
full-dress talks held in Tokyo.
The commentary says:
Some Japanese forces and media worked hard to create the impression
that the Tokyo talks achieved "success"
because they were held according to what the Japanese side intended.
And they let loose a spate of outcries that "Japan should not
compromise with the DPRK" and "there is no need to
hasten the Japan-DPRK negotiations, given the fact that the DPRK denies the
issue of "suspected kidnapping" and
takes no "sincere approach" to it.
These cannot be considered as something uttered by some Japanese forces
and media as they pleased but reflect the
double-dealing attitude and trick of the Japanese side.
At the talks the DPRK side clarified the stand of the DPRK towards the
issues of apology, compensation, cultural
treasures and guarantee of special status to the Korean residents in Japan,
which are the core of the issue of Japan's
liquidation of its past that was made clear in the last Pyongyang talks,
and refuted the unreasonable assertions of Japan
about "kidnapping" and "missile issue" and others one by one with perfect
logic.
The DPRK resolutely rejected the wrong intention of Japan to handle the
issue of compensation within the
parameters of the statement made by former Prime Minister Murayama as
regards the issue of apology and by the way
of settling the issue of property claims.
Responding to the principled, reasonable and firm stand of the DPRK
side, the Japanese side assured it that it
would make apology and compensation and it is the position of its
government to solve the issue of liquidation of its
past from an honest and realistic stand.
But the Japanese side at a news briefing held at the end of the talks
with Japanese journalists attending in the main
falsified truth by asserting that the DPRK understood the issues raised by
it and its stand and told the lie that it raised
strong demands to the DPRK side at the talks.
The DPRK side will watch how the Japanese side will keep the promise
the Japanese side made to it at the talks.
If the Japanese side has a will to redeem its past honestly and improve
its relations with the DPRK, it should stop
its dastardly and disturbing row and take an honest approach to the talks.
Japan's armed forces reorganization assailed
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today in a signed
commentary assails the Japan Defence
Agency for trying to reorganize the fifth and eleventh divisions and the
second mixed division of the ground
"Self-Defence Force" into a brigade ahead of schedule.
The reorganization is scheduled to be carried out in a phased way
during the mid-term arms buildup program
(2001-2005) and the next mid-term arms buildup program (2006-2010).
By putting into practice the plan earlier than scheduled, the Japanese
reactionaries seek to reorganize the system of
"Self-Defence Forces" for an actual war, increase their offensive
capabilities and round off their preparations for a war
with a view to materializing overseas expansion, the commentary notes, and
goes on:
Japan deployed more military personnel and hardware in the areas close
to the DPRK under the pretext of coping
with "ballistic missile threat," "mysterious ship infiltration" case and
"intrusion of armed guerrilla."
Positive developments of detente on the Korean peninsula clearly prove
that Japan's argument about "threat from
North Korea" is nothing but a fiction which it cooked up to realise its
wild ambition for becoming a military giant.
The Japanese reactionaries fear that such positive developments in
northeast Asia will lose them a justification for
their moves to become a military giant and will put a brake on their
preparations for a war of aggression against the
DPRK.
That is why they are hastening the reorganization of their military
forces under the pretext of coping with the rapid
change of the situation on the Korean peninsula.
The DPRK will counter Japan's reckless moves to become a military power.
If Japan takes the road of reinvasion, swimming against the trend of
times toward peace and detente, it will get
nothing but self-destruction.
Global multi-polarization termed irresistible need of times
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) - The confrontation between the U.S.
calling for a unipolar world and the
forces standing for multi-polarization is the main trend of the
international relations, says Rodong Sinmun today in a
signed article.
The contradiction between the U.S. and other big powers is noticeably
pronounced, it says, and continues:
What is noteworthy, in particular, is that china and Russia have an
identical attitude towards the U.S. strategy to
dominate a unipolar world and its "missile defence" system to put it into
practice.
Now China and Russia do not hide their readiness to strongly react to
the U.S. projected "missile defence" system
if it goes ahead with its establishment at any cost.
Even western countries are openly opposed to this U.S. plan.
The chief aim sought by the U.S. in this system is to have an
unchallenged military strategic edge over Russia and
china and retain its full military grip on other western countries.
What draws attention these days is that countries in various parts of
the world are going in for integration,
strengthening political, economic and military ties among them.
Despite the U.S. pressure the President of Venezuela visited Iraq and
the U.S. met unanimous objection of Latin
American countries when it tried to interfere in Peru's internal affairs at
the 30th conference of the organization of
American states.
The daily mounting call for the reform of the UN Security Council can
be interpreted as a reflection of the
requirement for the democratization of the international community and
global multi-polarization.
The confrontation between the forces aspiring after multi-polarization
and the U.S. is expected to get more acute,
the article notes, and concludes: With the moves for multi-polarization
becoming brisk some important changes may
take place in the international strategic structure in the 21st century.
Mass rally held to welcome unconverted long-term prisoners
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- A mass rally was held at Kim Il Sung
Stadium today with at least 50,000
Pyongyangites attending to welcome unconverted long-term prisoners,
indomitable pro-reunification patriotic fighters.
Set up in the stadium were picture boards and slogan boards reading
"Highest glory to the respected Marshal Kim
Jong Il who looks after destinies and future of revolutionary fighters with
great comradeship," "Fatherland warmly
hugs praiseworthy sons of party who are totally dedicated to reunification
and patriotism."
Present at the rally were unconverted long-term prisoners, men of
strong faith and will, who are back to the north,
their families and relatives.
Also present there were Hong Song Nam, premier of the DPRK cabinet, Kim
Il Chol, vice-chairman of the
National Defence Commission of the DPRK and Minister of the People's Armed
Forces, party and state leading
officials and other officials concerned.
Jon Pyong Ho, member of the political bureau and secretary of the
Central Committee of the Worker's Party of
Korea, made an address.
First of all, I, authorized by the great leader Kim Jong Il, warmly
welcome the unconverted long-term prisoners
back to their fatherland on behalf of the Pyongyang citizens and all other
people in the country, he said, and continued:
The repatriation of 63 pro-reunification patriotic fighters to the
fatherland at a time in the wake of the repatriation of
ri in mo in 1993 is a shining fruition of Kim Jong Il's unbounded
comradeship and wise guidance over the
reunification movement.
It was thanks to the immovable mainstay of faith that the unconverted
long-term prisoners steadfastly traversed the
road of reunification and patriotism to the last, the speaker noted, adding
that was the sense of obligation to their
leaders and conviction in the validity of the cause of national
reunification and its victory.
He called on all the party members and working people to learn from
their noble spiritual world and practical
examples and remain loyal to Kim Jong Il holding him in high esteem and
devotedly safeguard him in the spirit of
human bombs.
A congratulatory group of the Korean children's union entered the
stadium and recited a congratulatory poem for
the unconverted long-term prisoners.
Unconverted long-term prisoner Kim Son Myong, 75, who served 45 years
of prison term, the world's longest
term, made a speech. He extended warm gratitude to all the people in the
fatherland for the warm welcome accorded to
them.
Left alone in my early years after losing my parents and two younger
sisters in the south, I decided to come to the
north as I found my mainstay in Kim Jong Il, the father of the nation, he
said, and continued:
The one year I spent with brothers in the north after joining the
people's army as a volunteer during the war was
the period in which I felt the greatest worth of living as I came to know
about true love and the genuine cradle of life.
I could not forget even a moment the great care of the fatherly leader
Kim Il Sung, who taught what is a true
human life and provided it to me, nor could I betray it.
He said that representing the gratitude of all the unconverted
long-term prisoners, he would like to make a deep
bow to Kim Jong Il who bestowed upon them all love and trust he could,
concerned about them day and night.
Unconverted long-term prisoner U Yong Gak in his speech said that they
could survive more than 40 years of
hell-like prison life without vacillation, not yielding to persistent
"ideological conversion," because they had a mainstay
of faith. It was none other than the great Generalissimo Kim Il Sung and
the respected marshal Kim Jong Il, he said.
There still remain a number of unconverted long-term prisoners in South
Korea including Jong Sun Dok and Jong
Sun Thaek who are eagerly looking forward to their return to the care of
Kim Jong Il, he said adding that all the
unconverted long-term prisoners desirous of coming to the north and their
families should come under his loving care.
He evinced the firm determination of the unconverted long-term
prisoners to firmly trust and follow Kim Jong Il
only in the future, too and devote the rest of their lives to the victory
of the cause of national reunification true to his
intention.
Hong Son, daughter of unconverted long-term prisoner Hong Mun Go,
speaking on behalf of the families of
unconverted long-term prisoners said her father whom she thought would not
be able to come back returned aboard a
flower-decorated car after the lapse of scores of years. She thanked Kim
Jong Il for enabling her to reunite with her
father.
The families of the unconverted long-term prisoners will hold Kim Jong
Il in high esteem with loyalty and stand in
the van of the single-heartedly united ranks devotedly defending him, she
declared.
Congratulatory group of Chongryon here
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- A congratulatory group of the General
Association of Korean Residents in
Japan (Chongryon) led by Pak Jae Ro, vice-chairman of the central standing
committee of Chongryon, arrived here
today to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the founding of the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea.
It was met at the airport by Jang Chol, vice-chairman of the DPRK
Supreme People's Assembly, and officials
concerned.
U.S. censured for its brigandish act
Pyongyang, September 5 (KCNA) -- The Foreign Ministry of the DPRK made
public a statement today in
connection with the fact that Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium of
the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly,
and his party became unable to attend the new millennium UN summit due in
New York owing to obstructive moves of
the U.S. administration authorities.
The statement reads:
There occurred a serious incident in which the President of the
presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's
Assembly and his party had to return home from Frankfurt, Germany, unable
to reach their destination owing to the
obstructive moves of the U.S. administration authorities.
Our delegation was expected to travel to New York to attend the new
millennium UN summit aboard the U.S.
airliner "AA 176" due to leave Frankfurt on September 4.
However, people, styling themselves American air security agents,
unexpectedly showed up at the airport and
shamelessly claimed that they should inspect the members of our delegation
including the President of the presidium of
the Supreme People's Assembly and their belongings as a special case
because the DPRK is a "rogue nation", adding
that they received an order from their country.
This is a brigandish act of violating the international usage of travel
and neglecting elementary etiquette and
morality for a state representative. Accordingly, it is an unbearable
mockery of the sovereignty of an independent state
and a grave challenge to the United Nations and the summit organised by it.
The U.S. administration issued entry visas to our delegation, invited
it to receptions to be given during the summit
and agreed with us to have a number of DPRK-U.S. high-level contacts. But,
as our delegation left our country for the
summit, it blocked it in its way to the U.S. under the absurd pretext of
"safe flight." This suggests that its hostile
policy towards the DPRK has not changed even a bit but is getting more
despicable and crafty.
This happening clearly convinces us that though the United States is
proposing a number of talks at present,
talking about "improved relations" with us and the like, it is , in fact,
displeased with our opening of relations with
other countries.
The recent happening goes to clearly prove that the U.S. is the world's
biggest state of hooligans and rogues.
It is an entirely legitimate exercise of our sovereignty for us to take
a strong measure against the brigandish and
brazen-faced act of the U.S.
The U.S. will come to know what a dear price it will have to pay for
having hurt our people's dignity.
secuestro" y no muestra "actitud sincera".
