Kim Yong Nam and his party return home
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the
presidium of the Supreme People's
Assembly of the DPRK, and his party, who left Pyongyang to attend the new
UN Millennium Summit to be held in
New York, returned home today after canceling their plan to participate in
the summit as regards the serious incident
caused by the brazen-faced and brigandish obstructive moves of the U.S.
administration authorities.
They were met at the airport by Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the
presidium of the Supreme People's
Assembly, Kim Yun Hyok, secretary of the SPA presidium, Paek Nam Sun,
Minister of Foreign Affairs, officials
concerned and Wang Guozhang, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK.
Spokesman for President of DPRK SPA interviewed in Frankfurt
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the
presidium of the Supreme People's
Assembly of the DPRK, and his party which had left Pyongyang to attend the
UN Millennium Summit slated in New
York had no alternative but to return home after canceling their plan to
participate in it due to the unreasonable
obstructions on the part of the United States. In this connection the
spokesman for the President of the spa presidium
of the DPRK had a press conference with mediapersons of various countries
of the world in Frankfurt, Germany, on
September 5.
Present at the press conference were suite members of the President of
the SPA presidium, and reporters of
leading media of Germany, the U.S., Britain, Japan and other countries and
South Korea.
Choe Su Bon, vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs who is the spokesman for
the President, released a statement.
The statement said:
The President of the spa presidium of the DPRK and his party which had
been on transit in Frankfurt airport to
attend the UN Millennium Summit were compelled to return home after
canceling their plan to participate in it due to the
unreasonable obstructions on the part of the U.S. side.
At the time the President and his entourage were about to board the
already booked American Airliner "AA 176"
after going through all transit formalities as per the publicly recognized
regulation in Frankfurt airport on Sept. 4 those
who style themselves U.S. Air Security Agents showed up there and treated
them like criminals. They opened the
luggage and hand luggage of all the suite members and pressurized them to
undress and put off their shoes. They went
the length of searching even such private regions of their bodies that
baffle description.
They attempted to do such a rude thing against the President, too.
We lodged a strong protest with them against this after flatly
rejecting such inspection on the spot and demanded
they immediately report this to Washington.
The American Air Security Agents reappeared after their brief
disappearance and said what they did was instructed
by their superior. And they provocatively charged that anyone from North
Korea and seven other countries labeled
"rogue states" are unconditionally subject to the above said strict
inspection, otherwise no one is allowed to board the
plane.
They cancelled our seats in the plane without any prior agreement with us.
This rude provocation of the United States to the President of the spa
presidium who represents the DPRK, a
dignified UN member, is a grave infringement upon the sovereignty of an
independent state, an intolerable abuse and
insult to human rights and a blatant challenge to the exercise of rights by
the member countries according to the UN
Charter and the United Nations and the summit organized by it.
This is, at the same time, a high-handed act of ignoring the
international law and international usage.
The incident cannot be construed otherwise than a deliberate and
premeditated act conducted under a pre-arranged
script of the U.S. administration.
The U.S. blocking of the entry of the President and his entourage into
the U.S. even after issuing entry visas to
them and inviting them even to a banquet to be hosted by President Clinton
glaringly shows the sinister and cunning
double-dealing trick of the United States.
All this goes to prove that the U.S. is a typical state of rogues.
We bitterly condemn this unreasonable act on the part of the U.S. as a
flagrant violation and challenge to the UN
Millennium Summit, the first of its kind in the history of the united
nations, and the UN Charter.
The U.S. side should formally apologize for the serious act committed
against the President of the spa presidium
and will have to own full responsibility for all the ensuing consequences.
Floral basket to Kim Jong Il from Moammer El Gaddafi
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received
a floral basket from colonel
Moammer El Gaddafi, leader of the great September 1st Revolution of the
Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab
Jamahiriya, with the approach of the 52nd anniversary of the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea.
The floral basket was handed to an official concerned by Taher al Muhdi
Arifa, acting secretary of the people's
bureau of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya in Pyongyang,
on Tuesday.
Palestinian ambassador gives reception
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The Palestinian ambassador to the DPRK
gave a reception on Tuesday on
the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the DPRK.
Invited to the reception were Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the
presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's
Assembly, Jang Chol, vice-chairman of the SPA, Pak Kyong Son, vice
department director of the Central Committee
of the Worker's Party of Korea, Pak Tong Chun, vice-Minister of Foreign
Affairs, and other officials concerned.
Ambassador Shaher Mohammed Abdlah made a speech at the reception.
He said that he was very pleased to celebrate the anniversary of the
DPRK founded by the eternal great leader
President Kim Il Sung, together with the Korean people.
He went on:
The great leader Kim Jong Il is making an endless trip on on-the-spot
guidance for the country's reunification and
the prosperous future wished so much by the President, devoting all his
efforts to the people. The whole world,
therefore, looks up to him as the leader of the Korean nation.
Kim Jong Il ensured that the north-south summit was successfully held
and unconverted long-term prisoners,
loyal fighters who remained true to their faith were repatriated.
The ambassador extended warmest congratulations to Kim Jong Il on the
occasion of the anniversary of the DPRK
and hoped that he would enjoy a long life in good health to continue wisely
leading the friendly DPRK.
Vice-president Yang Hyong Sop in his speech said that the warm
congratulations extended by the Palestinian
people to the Korean people on the anniversary of the DPRK mean strong
support and encouragement to them who are
all out in building a powerful socialist nation under the wise leadership
of Kim Jong Il and a clear proof of the true and
warm friendly bonds between the two peoples.
The friendship between the DPRK and Palestine, which is growing
stronger with the flow of time, is based on the
special relations the President forged in his lifetime with the respected
President Arafat in the course of several
meetings, he said.
Noting that Kim Jong Il has always paid deep attention to the
development of friendly relations with the Palestinian
people, who have pulled through all hardships and trials together with the
Korean people, he said that the Korean
people would make positive efforts to further strengthen and develop the
friendly and cooperative relations with the
Palestinian people in the future, too, true to the behest of the President
and the intention of Kim Jong Il.
Kim Jong Il's work published in booklet in Cambodia
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The famous work of General Secretary
Kim Jong Il "The Worker's Party of
Korea Is the Party of the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung" was published
in booklet on Sept. 1 by the Entrimiaec
Publishing House of Cambodia.
The booklet in its preface says it is a great honor to publish in Khmer
and disseminate the work of General
Secretary Kim Jong Il on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the
glorious WPK.
Preparatory committee for celebrating DPRK anniversary formed in Mongolia
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- A Mongolian preparatory committee for
celebrating the 52nd anniversary of
the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was inaugurated in Ulaan Baatar
on Aug. 25.
The preparatory committee decided to hold colorful functions including
a celebration meeting and a photo
exhibition on the occasion.
Ceremony of handing over "no smoking torch" in southeast Asia held
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- A ceremony of handing over "no smoking
torch" in southeast Asia was held
at the DPRK embassy in New Delhi on September 1.
At the ceremony DPRK ambassador Pak Myong Gu informed its participants
that the DPRK fixed a "week of no
smoking campaign" and held various functions before handing over the torch
to the assistant secretary of the Ministry
of Health and Family Welfare of India.
Present at the ceremony were officials concerned of the southeast Asia
regional office of the World Health
Organization, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India, the
Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of
Information and Broadcasting.
KCNA urges Japan to mull over its involvement in "TMD" development
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- As reported, the United States
recently decided to temporarily suspend the
development of the controversial "National Missile Defense" system (NMD),
which has been a matter of great concern
of the international community.
Terming this decision as a "well-advised attitude," the world is urging
the U.S. not to temporarily suspend but
totally withdraw the "nmd" system.
It is, however, only Japan that feels uneasy about the U.S. decision.
Officials of its defence agency are racking
their brains to assert that the "NMD" system of the U.S. and the "Theatre
Missile Defence" system (TMD) now being
jointly developed by Japan and the U.S. are different from each other.
Japan's contention is that the development of the "TMD" system should
be continued regardless of the U.S.
decision.
What should not be overlooked is that Japan is again citing a "missile
threat" from the DPRK to justify its
assertion.
This irrefutably proves that Japan seeks to develop and round off the
"TMD" system at any cost under the pretext
of this "threat" from the DPRK to hold military supremacy in East Asia.
The greatest destabilizing military factor in East Asia is not a
"threat" from anyone, but the moves to develop the
"TMD" system jointly stepped up by Japan and the U.S.
If the U.S. and Japan go ahead with the development of the "TMD"
system, this will prompt other Asian countries
to develop new types of weapons capable of destroying it or rapidly
increase their strike capabilities.
This means a new arms race in East Asia and it will entail unimaginably
serious disasters.
Greetings to Kim Jong Il and Kim Yong Nam
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The great leader Kim Jong Il, General
Secretary of the Worker's Party of
Korea, Chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and Supreme
Commander of the Korean People's
Army, and Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium of the Supreme People's
Assembly, received a message of
greetings from Fedel Castro Ruz, first secretary of the central committee
of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of
the Council of State and President of the Council of Ministers of the
Republic of Cuba, on Sept. 1 on the occasion of
the 52nd anniversary of the DPRK.
Extending warmest and fraternal congratulations to Kim Jong Il and Kim
Yong Nam, the WPK and the

The Cuban people highly praise the Korean people's heroic and stubborn
struggle.
Availing myself of this opportunity, I would like to affirm you that
the Cuban people who cherish the noble
socialist idea as the fraternal Korean people do will as always take side
with them in their struggle to defend sovereign
rights, justice and their rights to peace and happiness.
I sincerely wish you good health and many successes in your responsible
work.

Jong Il.

ideologically strong men and fighters strong in faith
and will.

and artistic level.
Okryu bridge
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The Okryu bridge across the River
Taedong in downtown Pyongyang was
opened to traffic on August 13, Juche 49 (1960).
Linking the eastern and western parts of Pyongyang, it adds to the
capital's beautiful scenery, flanked down the
river with the 170-metre-tall tower of the Juche idea, the matching
150-metre-tall twin fountains and some historical
relic units, and up the river with moran hill, one of Pyongyang's scenic
attractions, and the picturesque Rungna Islet
with the May Day Stadium on, the venue of the opening ceremony of the 13th
World Festival of Youth and Students.
The bridge was built on the basis of all technical considerations
including its correlation with the natural conditions
of moran hill and artificial structures, particularly the Taedong bridge
farther down the river. It survived the flood that
struck the River Taedong area in the late 1960s.
Its either entrance is decked with two big square granite heads of
balustrade and chandeliers, the granite embossed
with an inscription of its name in President Kim Il Sung's handwriting. It
was named Okryu (bead-like flow) by him.
It is some 700 metres long by 28.5 metres wide, and its motorway is
separated from the pavement by lamp posts.
With inter-pier arches, the bridge is of unique architectural style
blending with national flavor.
Over the four decades, the bridge has brought immense benefit to the
nation's economic development and the
citizens' comfort. It connects the major loops in Pyongyang and caters to
commuter traffic between its east and west by
means of trolley-bus and other services.
The bridge is a pride of Pyongyang citizens.
Letter of thanks to Kim Jong Il from unconverted long-term prisoners
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received
a letter of thanks on Sep. 4 from
unconverted long-term prisoners, indomitable pro-reunification patriots,
who received the national reunification prize.
The letter said:
It was not our exploits that we courageously pulled through incredible
hardships, refusing to make an ideological
conversion, but a bounden duty to be fulfilled by us sons of the country
and soldiers of President Kim Il Sung and
Marshal Kim Jong Il. Yet, you have bestowed all loving care and trust you
could upon us. We would like to offer our
deepest thanks to you for this.
Though we were put to unendurable torture in dark prison, we
steadfastly followed the road of reunification and
patriotism true to the great love, sense of obligation and will the
President and you instilled into us to be our patriotic
soul.
It is the Korean nation's greatest luck to have you, the greatest man,
as our leader and it is the biggest fortune for
us soldiers to advance along the road of revolution, holding you in high
esteem.
In the letter they renewed their pledge to remain loyal to Kim Jong Il
to the last moments of their lives and let their
sons and daughters honor generation after generation what they leave
unfulfilled and thus repay even a bit the great
benevolence bestowed upon them by the marshal, the benefactor of their
lives and a great teacher.
52nd DPRK anniversary marked in Guyana
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- A joint meeting of political parties
and organizations of Guyana was held in
Georgetown on Aug. 30 to celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea.
Robert Williams, general secretary of the Good Green Guyana, made a
speech on behalf of his party.
He said the President Kim Il Sung, who rose as the sun of the nation
when Korea was under the colonial rule of
the Japanese imperialists, organized the anti-Japanese armed struggle and
liberated the country.
Today, thanks to the outstanding and tested leadership of the great
leader Kim Jong Il Korea is displaying its might
as an ideologically and militarily powerful country matchless in the world,
he stressed.
The chairman of the Guyana Labour Union in his speech on behalf of the
organization said that the heroic spirit,
fighting strength and unity power of the Korean people were instilled and
fostered by Kim Il Sung and consolidated by
Kim Jong Il.
A congratulatory message to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.
Great man and victors of strong faith
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- Papers on Tuesday carried an article
titled "Great Man and Victors of Strong
Faith" hailing the return of unconverted long-term prisoners in South Korea
to the socialist fatherland.
The article said:
It was thanks to the great leader Kim Jong Il, a man without a parallel
in the world, that the unconverted long-term
prisoners could emerge as ideologically strong men and victors of strong
faith, and the source of their strong faith was
their worship of and trust in the great man and his charm.
Their lives are characterized by the purest and most transparent faith
and intense loyalty and the sense of obligation
with which they defended the great idea.
They are the giants who emerged in the history as proud victors of
faith in socialism after courageously weathering
out the anti-socialist wind that swept the world.
Noting that their faith and will would have been unthinkable without
Kim Jong Il, the article referred to the
measures taken by him for their repatriation to the fatherland and his
noble comradeship shown for them.
The article went on:
The repatriation of a group of unconverted long-term prisoners to the
socialist fatherland to be specially recorded in
the history as a miracle in the 20th century is the fruition of Kim Jong
Il's great idea, warm love and noble sense of
obligation.
A soldier who lives under the great care of Kim Jong Il, his destiny
entrusted to him, would never feel lonely even
on an isolated island, never be afraid of a hell and never yield to any
violent storm.
Masses of people are subject of social history
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The Juche philosophy clarifies from a
new angle that masses of people are
the subject of history.
It means that the masses of people stand in the center of history and a
social movement is conducted by them.
The human history is the course of social movement of the masses of
people, i.e. the course of the movement of
its subject. Because it is the masses that require social development and
it is also the masses that carry it out.
Without the masses there would be no social movement itself, nor would
any progress of history be conceivable.
The masses of people are the masters of the revolution and construction
and a decisive factor in transforming
nature and developing society.
The masses have the most powerful creating ability in transforming
nature and society.
It is thanks to the inexhaustible strength of the masses that
everything in society is being created, history
progresses and revolution is promoted.
The masses of people create material wealth by transforming nature and
developing productive forces and
accumulate ideological and cultural treasures of society.
The masses of people are the subject of history as everything in
society is created by them and history is made and
advances thanks to them.
The position of the popular masses and their power growing stronger
through the transformation of nature and
society will increase their positive influence over the socio-historical
development that much.
Though popular masses are subject of history, they can be awakened and
organized to take the position and play
the role as an independent driving force of history only under the correct
guidance of the party and the leader.
Number of organizations for study of Juche idea on increase
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- More organizations for the study of
the Juche idea made their appearance in
various countries of the world.
Some time ago, the Center for the Study of the Juche Idea was
inaugurated at Chingiskhan College of Mongolia
and the Society for the Study of the Juche Idea and the Institute for the
Study of the Juche Idea were formed in Russia
and Bangladesh.
New organizations for the study of the Juche idea appeared in at least
10 countries including Lebanon, Morocco
and Egypt this year.
The last four years witnessed the emergence of more than 30
organizations for the study of the Juche idea amid the
growing enthusiasm of the world progressive people to follow and study the
Juche idea.
Those organizations group people from all walks of life, among them not
only persons of academic circles and
press, youth and students but senior party and government officials of
respective countries. The organizations are
conducting diverse activities to study and disseminate the Juche idea such
as seminars, lecture meetings and
distribution of information through the internet.
The organizations for the study of the Juche idea active in over 30
countries have held more than 200 national
seminars, joint seminars and lecture meetings on the Juche idea this year.
More than 1,000 organizations for the study of the Juche idea have been
active in at least 100 countries for the last
30 odd years since the "Group for the Study of the Works of Comrade Kim Il
Sung" was formed in Mali in April,
Juche 58 (1969).
As the study and dissemination of the Juche idea assumed a global
dimension the International Institute of the
Juche Idea was established in April 1978, the Latin American Institute of
the Juche Idea in February 1978 and the
Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea in September 1980, the African
Regional Committee for the Study of the
Juche Idea in April, 1985 and the European Society for the Study of the
Juche Idea in October 1985.
These institutes have organized international and regional seminars
every year and issued publications to explain
and disseminate the Juche idea.
Defending independence against imperialism
Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- It is an important task for the
advance and victory of the people's cause of
independence to wage an anti-imperialist struggle, says Rodong Sinmun today
in a signed article.
In order to realize the common desire of humankind to live in a free
and peaceful world, it is imperative to struggle
for defending independence against imperialism, the article says, and goes on:
By nature imperialism is opposed to independence. Its mode of existence
is to infringe upon the sovereignty of the
popular masses.
The imperialists work hard to preserve their old order of domination
and rule by force of arms and bring the world
under their control.
They seek to establish political domination over the anti-imperialist
independent countries and those countries
which do not curry favour with them.
They are pushing forward the development of new types of nuclear
weapons and the arms race under the
signboards of "peace" and "disarmament."
What is important in the anti-imperialist struggle is to maintain a
principled stand on imperialism.
Unity is a decisive guarantee for the victory in the struggle for
independence against imperialism.
The driving force in the struggle for independence in each country is
its people and all the anti-imperialist
independent forces are the engine of the struggle for global independence
against imperialism.
All the anti-imperialist independent forces in the world can surely
destroy imperialism and build a new independent
world if they unite close under the banner of the struggle for independence
against imperialism irrespective of ideology,
system and religious belief to shatter all the imperialist moves for
division and alienation.
