>VISITED REKOVAC AND OPARIC IN CENTRAL SERBIA REKOVAC, OPARIC, September 10
>(Tanjug) - Yugoslav Foreign Minister and Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Main
>Board Executive Committee member Zivadin Jovanovic said on Saturday that much
>had been done in the country in the past period, but that many tasks still
>faced the Yugoslav leadership. The Yugoslav leadership wants to continue
>strengthening the country, to spread its voice throughout the world, and to
>grow in every aspect, Jovanovic said during a visit to the central Serbian
>municipality of Rekovac and Oparic village. Peace, harmony and stability in
>the country are necessary for the realization of these goals, he said, as
>carried by Serbian Radio Television in its evening news. He expressed the wish
>that the September 24 elections be "a step toward even greater peace,
>stability, understanding, unity, and responsibility."

>SERBIAN PROVINCE OF KOSOVO AND METOHIJA ONLY 19 SERBS REMAIN IN SOME 10 HOUSES
>IN UROSEVAC PRISTINA, September 10 (Tanjug) - Members of the Subcommittee for
>Humanitarian Issues and Information of the Yugoslav Committee for Cooperation
>with the U.N. Mission in Kosovo and Metohija on Saturday visited Urosevac, a
>town which is today home to only 19 Serbs - 16 adults and three children,
>13-year-old twins and their nine-year-old brother. Subcommittee members
>visited each of the remaining 10 Serb houses which are in different parts of
>the town. They presented aid in food, clothing, footwear and toiletries. In
>Urosevac, the remaining Serb houses have become specific concentration camps.
>The 19 Serbs have not ventured outside for months, they cannot visit with each
>other, or have any contacts, but they know that the other Serbs are still
>there. International force KFOR Greek contingent members are on guard outside
>these houses round the clock. They inform the Serbs about the activities of
>their fellow nationals. The Greek troops are the only guarantee that these
>Serbs will live to see another day.

>FROM FOREIGN MEDIA SPECTER OF KOSOVO LOOMS OVER MILLENNIUM SUMMIT ROME,
>September 9 (Tanjug) - As expected, the U.N. Millennium Summit which ended in
>New York on Friday reiterated pledges that the world organization would fight
>the historical challenges - wars, poverty, illiteracy, diseases, "Corriere
>della Sera" said on Saturday. The Milan daily published a most sharply-worded
>commentary in reaction to the summit, headlined "Summit of shredded Utopias."
>"The real truth is that the specter of Kosovo and Metohija, with the bypassing
>of the United Nations and Russia's reaction, burdened like a heavy rock
>relations between the world powers over the three days of the New York summit.
>Among other things, this is one of the main reasons why the U.N. document on
>blue helmets was not sharply worded, on which the United States and Great
>Britain had insisted, but was balanced according to the wishes of Russia and
>China," the Milan daily said.
