(Summary: Foreign Minister of Turkey Ismail Cem is in Brussels for talks
with European officials. DHKC Brussels Information Bureau lists the
massacres and torture of prisoners and more general attacks in Turkey, some
of them during Cem's tenure of office, and calls on European officials to
ask Cem about them during meetings with him.)

THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF TURKEY, ISMAIL CEM, IS IN BRUSSELS
HIS TASK IS: TO COVER UP THE MASSACRES

In Turkey, massacre, torture, rape and every kind of forcible deprivation of
rights continues. The fascist MHP (Nationalist Movement Party), which is
responsible for the massacre of thousands of people, is assuming its place
as part of the government of Turkey. The fascist character of the MHP
dominates the government. Massacres and tortures are an aspect of our
country. It is the authorities who hold political power, the present
government and the ministers of this government such as Ismail Cem who have
created this picture of our country.
In order to transform all the prisons in our country into "isolation cells",
this government is behind new massacres in the prisons. The prisons in our
country were always scenes of massacres. And today this is still the case .
THE MASSACRES IN THE PRISONS IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER:
September 21, 1995: MASSACRE IN BUCA (IZMIR)
On September 21, the prisoners Turan Kilic, Yusuf Bag and Ugur Sariaslan
(note: DHKP-C prisoners) were beaten to death with wooden beams and clubs in
Buca Prison. This massacre of prisoners, whose arms and legs were bound and
who were behind four prison walls, is an expression of the bloody side of
Turkey. The politics of massacre continue and those responsible for that are
still in duty (!). And this is the aspect of Turkey with which Europe is
reinforcing its cooperation.
September 24, 1996: MASSACRE IN DIYARBAKIR
On or around September 24, 10 prisoners, among them Ridvan Bulut, Edip
Dilekci, Kadir Gümüs and Hakki Tekin, were killed with wooden beams (note:
these were Kurdish nationalist prisoners). Their arms and legs were also
bound, and they too were behind prison walls. Those responsible for the
Diyarbakir massacre are also still on duty (!). The murdered prisoners are
accused of having damaged the sticks and wooden beams of the state. With
such a Turkey, Europe is reinforcing its cooperation.
SEPTEMBER 26, 1999: MASSACRE IN ULUCANLAR (ANKARA)
On September 26, 1999, 10 prisoners named Ahmet Savran, Ismet Kavaklioglu,
Aziz Dönmez, Nevzat Ciftci, Ümit Altintas, Abuzer Cat, Zafer Kirbiyik, Mahir
Emsalsiz, Önder Gencaslan and Halil Türker (note: prisoners from the DHKP-C
and other revolutionary groups) were massacred with wooden beams, clubs and
firearms. Those prisoners who were wounded in the hail of bullets were
finished off by beating and torture. All that has been proven. But again,
those responsible for the massacre in Ulucanlar still keep their positions
(!) and enforce new attacks aimed at carrying out massacres. This is the
Turkey that Europe wants to support.
ISMAIL CEM:
WAS THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE MURDEROUS GOVERNMENT ON SEPTEMBER
1999; HIS TASK WAS TO DEFEND THE MASSACRE. FOR THE SAME REASON, HE IS IN
BRUSSELS ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2000; ONCE MORE HIS TASK IS TO DEFEND THE
MURDEROUS GOVERNMENT:
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Ismail Cem, who started his
conversations with the Council of Europe on September 20, 2000, will meet
with the chairperson of the Council of Europe, Prodi, today, September 21.
Ismail Cem came here with blood in his hands. To shake his hands means to
legitimise the massacres and be stained with the blood on his hands. It is
the blood of the prisoners behind the walls of their jails.
The hands of Ismail Cem are dirty, in fact not only through the massacres in
the prisons but also through the deaths by torture, the rapes and the
thousands of people murdered in the open street or in their houses.
Honoured Mr Prodi, never forget the hands that you have shaken today. Our
blood is stuck to those hands. Our blood has been spilled by the sadists and
rapists. The fascist regime of our country has spilled our blood. It is
blood and only blood that is flowing over your hands today. If you don't
want to have the responsibility for all these massacres on your conscience,
then you must take a stand against the inhuman methods of the fascist
government of Turkey.
Or, when you want you stroke your own children, do you want to smear this
blood on them too; while saying you want to bring democracy to all Europe,
do you want responsibility for this on your conscience?
It is your decision. The responsibility lies with your conscience and
yourself.
HONOURED MR PRODI; TO FREE YOURSELF FROM THE HISTORICAL RESPONSIBILITY
WEIGHING ON YOU, ASK AT LEAST THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS TO ISMAIL CEM:
"HAS AN ULUCANLAR MASSACRE TAKEN PLACE IN YOUR COUNTRY? WHERE WERE YOU AT
THE TIME OF THIS MASSACRE, WHAT WAS YOUR FUNCTION AT THAT MOMENT, WHAT STEPS
HAVE YOU UNDERTAKEN IN ORDER TO CONDEMN THIS INHUMAN MASSACRE, WHERE ARE
THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS MASSACRE NOW, WHAT'S THEIR FUNCTION (!) TODAY?"
THE DECISION IS UP TO YOU, HONOURED MR. PRODI
