WFDY-statement and call for Urgent
Action
The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY)
condemns in the most vehement way, the recent massacres of the Barak government
against Palestinian people, committed against peaceful and unarmed
demonstrators, which responded to the provocative visit of Likud party
leader Sharon to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, last Friday, 29th September 2000.
This escalation of Israeli brutality
against the Palestinians, which fight for decades for their just cause, is a new
bloody provocation, this time even with rockets and heavy weapons resulting in
tens of killed and more than 1000 of injured. It constitutes amongst others also
a barbarian insult to the sentiments of all kinds of religious feelings in the
world.
Not only that the Israeli
government is not implementing the UN-Security Council resolutions 242,338,181
and 194, but it is extending all these years its settlements inside Palestine,
"blocking" the peace negotiations with a clear and cynical intention not to
respect international law and principles. In this context, the responsibilities
of the big imperialist powers for the unsolved conflict are very big.
WFDY reiterates its full support to the
Palestinian positions for the complete withdrawal of the Israeli troops from the
occupied territories of 1967, the establishment of the independent state of
Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, with the return of all refugees
and the release of all political prisoners.
The Israeli oppression did not stop all these years,
but likewise the struggle of the Palestinian youth and people did not stop. This
struggle has our full support, till the final victory.
We call upon the International Community and all
member- and friendly organisations of WFDY, to express their strong and
categorical protest against the brutal oppression of the Palestinians by
Israel, to initiate and to participate in protest acts allover the world,
declaring at the same time the solidarity with the Palestinian people.
At the same time and after the withdrawal
of Israel from South Lebanon, we demand their unconditional withdrawal from the
Golan Heights of Syria.
The resistance of the Palestinian Youth and People
will grow and succeed. The International solidarity of the progressive,
anti-imperialist movement will contribute to this direction.
