Belfast Telegraph 30 September 2000 INLA to extend its truce By Martin Breen The INLA ceasefire was under the spotlight today for the first time since it was declared two years ago. But the group's political wing, who were meeting for their first annual conference since then in west Belfast, was adamant that the truce would remain intact. A motion at the Irish Republican Socialist Party's Ard Fheis on the Falls Road cited support for the ceasefire and the party believes it will be universally endorsed. However, they revealed that the INLA truce, which was called in August 1998, is subject to a rolling review in terms of loyalist violence. Irish Republican Socialist Party member Eddie McGarrigle said he was confident the ceasefire would not break and rubbished reports that the INLA had assisted dissident republicans in the Real IRA and Continuity IRA to carry out attacks. He said: "The ceasefire is solid. There would be an ongoing review in regard to loyalist activities".
