Greetings to President of Equatorial Guinea

   Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the presidium
of the DPRK Supreme
People's Assembly, sent a message of greetings to Obiang Nguema Mbasogo,
President of Equatorial
Guinea, on October 6 on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of its
independence.
    The message extended warm congratulations to the President and people
of Equatorial Guinea on the
32nd anniversary of its independence.
    In the belief that the good relations of friendship and cooperation
between the two countries would grow
stronger and develop in the new century, it wished the President greater
success in his responsible work for
the unity of the nation and the prosperity of the country.



Greetings to President of Yugoslavia

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, President of the
presidium of the DPRK Supreme
People's Assembly, on October 10 sent a message of greetings to Vojislav
Kostunica upon his election as
President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
    The message extended congratulations to him on his election as
President of the republic.
    It wished him success in his responsible work for the progress and
prosperity of the country and
expressed belief that the friendly relations between the two countries
would continue to develop on good
terms.



Special envoy of Kim Jong Il meets U.S. President

   Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Vice marshal Jo Myong Rok, first
vice-chairman of the DPRK
National Defence Commission and director of the general political
department of the Korean People's Army,
on a visit to the United States as a special envoy of the great leader Kim
Jong Il, Chairman of the NDC of the
DPRK and Supreme Commander of the KPA, met and conversed with U.S.
President Bill Clinton at the
White House on Tuesday.
    Present there from the DPRK side were Kang Sok Ju, first vice-Minister
of Foreign Affairs, and officials
concerned and from the U.S. side Albright, Secretary of State, Berger,
special adviser to the President for
national security, and Sherman, special adviser to the President and the
Secretary of State and DPRK policy
coordinator.
    At the meeting Jo Myong Rok conveyed Kim Jong Il's personal letter and
greetings to the U.S.
President.
    He also transmitted to Bill Clinton Kim Jong Il's will to improve the
relations between the DPRK and the
U.S.
    The U.S. President expressed thanks for this and courteously asked Jo
Myong Rok to convey his
regards to chairman of the NDC Kim Jong Il.
    Clinton clarified his political will to newly develop the U.S.-DPRK
relations.
    The special envoy and the President exchanged broad views on issues
related to the ways of improving
the DPRK-U.S. relations and ensuring peace and security in northeast Asia.



Performance given by KPA merited chorus

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The delegates to celebrations of the
55th anniversary of the Worker's
Party of Korea enjoyed a performance given by the merited chorus of the
Korean People's Army at the April
25 House of Culture today.
    The program of the performance that began with "Song of General Kim
Jong Il" included songs "the
Leader Will Always Be With Us", "Hold High the Flag of 'DIU'", "Long Live
the Worker's Party of
Korea", "the Road of Victory" and "We Will Go On Along the Road of Loyalty".
    The performers loudly sang of the immortal exploits of the
ever-victorious Worker's Party of Korea
which has grown to be reliable vanguard of the Korean revolution despite
the stern tempest of history and
always led the revolutionary struggle of the Korean people to accomplish
the socialist cause to victory since
an origin was given to the building of a revolutionary party of Juche.
    The performance was acclaimed by audience for its high ideological and
artistic value.



Evening gala and torchlight procession mark anniversary of WPK

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- An evening gala and torchlight
procession of youth and students
took place at Kim Il Sung Square this evening to celebrate the 55th
anniversary of the Worker's Party of
Korea.
    Seen on the square were a portrait of the President Kim Il Sung and
slogans "Long live the great leader
comrade Kim Il Sung " and "Long live the glorious Worker's Party of Korea
", "Let us accomplish the
revolutionary cause of Juche in hearty response to the behest of the great
leader comrade Kim Il Sung " and
other slogans, and large flags of the WPK were seen hanging and red flags
were fluttering.
    Young people and students started graceful dances on the gorgeously
decorated square when fireworks
were displayed in the nocturnal sky above Pyongyang.
    General Secretary Kim Jong Il appeared on the tribune of honour.
    That moment, thunderous cheers of "hurrah" burst forth to shake the square.
    Senior party and state officials including Kim Yong Nam and Hong Song
Nam took the tribune.
    The delegates to the celebrations of the 55th WPK anniversary were seen
on the reviewing stand.
    Also seen there were the chief of the Pyongyang mission of the National
Democratic Front of South
Korea (NDFSK), diplomatic envoys of various countries and embassy officials
here and other foreign
guests.
    The square was packed with youth and students dancing with joy to the
tune of "Pride of Youth" and
"Youth Is Glorified Under the Care of the Worker's Party of Korea" and
other songs.
    The evening gala was followed by a torchlight procession.
    After the song "Long Live the Worker's Party of Korea" reverberated
through the brightly lit square there
began a torchlight procession of youth vanguard led by limousines carrying
the flags bearing the portraits of
President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
    Columns of men and women of distinguished services, students of
revolutionary schools, students and
young workers marched past in fine array to the tune of the revolutionary
paeans "Song of General Kim Il
Sung" and "Song of General Kim Jong Il".
    Those on the square repeatedly formed with torchlight the mark of the
WPK and Mt. Paektu and letters
"guide" and "rifle", etc.
    Columns of youth and students marched past the tribune, presenting
large letters "Kim Il Sung", "Kim
Jong Il", "single-hearted unity", "comradeship", "Worker's Party of Korea"
and others with torchlight.
    Kim Jong Il waved to the young people raising enthusiastic cheers "hurrah".



Young hero motorway opened to traffic

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA)-- A grand ceremony of opening to traffic
the young hero motorway
from Pyongyang to Nampho was held today on the occasion of the 55th
anniversary of the Worker's Party of
Korea.
    The 40 odd km-long motorway from the Mangyongdae fork in Pyongyang to
the youth bridge, the gate
to nampho, is a great monumental edifice in the era of the WPK built by
members of the youth shock brigade
and young servicemen with loyalty as a gift to the 55th anniversary of the WPK.
    This modern motorway was built with our materials and on our own
efforts according to our blueprint
and architecture.
    The motorway is wide enough for several vehicles to run at a time. It
has unique bridges and crossings.
There appeared on either side of the motorway green belts and woodlands and
houses for thousands of
families. The motorway has been built in such a way as to fully meet its
scientific and technological needs
including safety and match well its surrounding scenery.
    The construction of the motorway has improved the appearance of the
historic places associated with
immortal revolutionary exploits of the President Kim Il Sung including the
fork at Mangyongdae,
Pyongyang, Chollima district and Chongsan-ri and Thaesong-ri of Nampho and
given a face-lifting to land of
the country.
    It will help perfect the transport network in the area on the west
coast, greatly contribute to the
improvement of standard of people's living and the country's economic
development. As a result, Pyongyang
has turned into a more magnificent capital city linked with a big port city.
    Upholding the plan of the great leader Kim Jong Il to build a powerful
nation, the young shock
brigadiers and servicemen completed in a matter of two years Herculean task
such as over 40 km-long
roadbed and sand and gravel spreading projects, building of several bridges
and pavement and asphalting
under the worst conditions where they were hard pressed for everything.
    Present at the ceremony held at the entrance to the motorway were young
shock brigadiers and
soldier-builders who participated in the construction delegates to
celebrations of the 55th anniversary of the
Worker's Party of Korea, unconverted long-term prisoners, members of
contingents of relay racers to convey
letters of loyalty to Kim Jong Il and working people in the city.
    The congratulatory group and the group of relay racers to convey
letters of loyalty of the Korean
residents in Japan and overseas compatriots were also on hand.
    Present were Kim Yong Nam, Hong Song Nam, Paek Hak Rim, Yon Hyong Muk,
Han Song Ryong,
Kye Ung Thae, Kim Chol Man and other senior party and government officials
and officials concerned.
    At the ceremony President Kim Yong Nam of the presidium of the Supreme
People's Assembly, who is
member of the political bureau of the WPK Central Committee, read out a
congratulatory message of the
WPK Central Committee to the young shock brigadiers and soldier-builders
who have performed feats in the
construction of the young hero motorway.
    Ri Il Hwan, first secretary of the central committee of the Kim Il Sung
Socialist Youth League, made a
report.
    Then, senior party and government officials cut a red cloth hanging
across the entrance.
    At the end of the ceremony its participants looked round the motorway.



Anti-U.S. rally in Seoul

   Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- An anti-U.S. rally was held in the Seoul
station plaza on October 7
under the co-sponsorship of 6 civic organizations including the
Pan-national Measure Committee for the
Closure of Firing Range in Maehyang-ri, the National Movement for the
Revision of the Shackling S.
Korea-U.S. "Status of Forces Agreement", the headquarters of the Movement
for Putting an End to GI
Crimes and the Rogun-ri Inhabitants Measure Committee.
    The rally which was staged to observe "day of national movement against
U.S." was attended by
inhabitants of Maehyang-ri and Rogun-ri and students.
    In the resolution adopted at the rally its participants demanded the
U.S. government totally close the
firing range in Maehyang-ri, completely revise the "Status of Forces
Agreement," apologize for GIs'
environmental pollution and punish those responsible for it, probe the
truth behind massacres of guiltless
civilians and apologize and compensate for them and cancel its plan to
establish the "Theatre Missile Defence"
system, and so on.
    At the end of the rally, the participants staged a demonstration.
    Prior to the rally, the co-sponsors conducted such propaganda as a
photo exhibition showing
environmental pollution by U.S. forces bases, a meeting and photo
exhibition on GIs' massacres of civilians,
an opinion poll on the U.S. troops in South Korea and an exhibition of
shells used during U.S. troops
exercises and an event of sending protest postcards to the U.S. ambassador
to South Korea.



National seminar on Juche idea and education held in Madagascar

   Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- A Madagascan national seminar on the
Juche idea and education was
held on September 30 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the
Worker's Party of Korea.
    Present at the seminar were personages of political, public, academic
and press circles of Madagascar
including the speaker of the parliament.
    It was stressed there that the socialist pedagogy, advanced by the
great leader President Kim Il Sung and
developed in depth by the great leader General Secretary Kim Jong Il, is an
entirely unique theory of
education.
    A reporter and speakers said the Juche idea is the most scientific
outlook on the world in the present
times, the most correct guiding idea for revolution and construction and an
encyclopedic idea that gives an
overall exposition of all the problems arising in the educational work.
    Today the progressive people struggling for the building of a new
society and independence see in the
Juche-based idea of education a true way of training the revolutionary
personnel and solving the issue of
national cadres as well as a powerful weapon of the struggle for genuine
freedom and rights of education,
they said.
    They declared that they would fully support the Korean people in the
struggle to smash the enemies'
isolation and suffocation moves, build a powerful socialist nation and
achieve the independent and peaceful
reunification of the country.
    A letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted at the seminar.



Conference of Japan women's liaison council held

    Tokyo, October 8 (KNS-KCNA) -- A national conference of the Japan
Women's Liaison Council for
Solidarity with the Korean Women was held here on September 23-24.
    At the conference, Sumiko Sumizu, social-democratic member of the House
of Councilors and
Representative of the Council, noted that national reconciliation and
cooperation are being promoted between
the north and the south of Korea after the publication of the north-south
joint declaration and
intergovernmental talks are going on between Japan and the DPRK, creating a
favourable situation. It is high
time people urged the Japanese government to sincerely liquidate the past
and make an apology and
compensation and thus establish the diplomatic relations between Japan and
the DPRK, she said.
    The council adopted it as its future action program to realize the
establishment of Japan-DPRK diplomatic
relations and defend the democratic national rights of Korean residents in
Japan.



Letters to Kim Jong Il from unconverted long-term prisoners

   Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il received
letters from unconverted
long-term prisoners, Ri In Mo, incarnation of faith and will, and O Ik Je,
vice-chairman of the Committee for
Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, on October 10 on the occasion of
the 55th anniversary of the
Worker's Party of Korea.
    In their letters they extended wholehearted congratulations to Kim Jong
Il on the WPK founding
anniversary.
    The 63 unconverted long-term prisoners who had come into the care of
the fatherland in September said
that they could fight in prison for so many years, remaining true to their
faith and conscience to the last as the
invincible Worker's Party of Korea was enshrined in their hearts as their
mainstay.
    It was the mother party that always encouraged them to keep their faith
and led them along the road of a
worthy life even behind bars, the letter noted, and stressed: the great
party is none other than President Kim Il
Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
    In his letter Ri In Mo, who was embraced by the party in Juche 82
(1993), said he spent 34 years in
prison as he could not betray his conscience of being a WPK member by
signing a piece of conversion paper.

    The WPK was always a source of my strength and will and during the last
seven years I have spent
under the care of the party all my wishes have come true, the letter said.
    O Ik Je, who came to the north from the south, said in his letter that
the WPK is called mother party and
this is something worth a special mention to be seen in the DPRK only.
    The letter stressed that the WPK is growing stronger than ever before
as it has not only an inflexible faith
but motherly warm love.
    The letters wholeheartedly wished Kim Jong Il a long life in good health.



WPK Central Committee gives banquet

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The Central Committee of the Worker*fs
Party of Korea gave a
banquet in Pyongyang on October 10 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary
of the WPK.
    Present at the banquet were Kim Yong Nam, Hong Song Nam, Kim Yong Chun,
Kim Il Chol and other
senior party and state officials, anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters and
delegates to celebrations of the 55th
anniversary of the WPK.
    President Kim Yong Nam of the presidium of the Supreme People's
Assembly of the DPRK, who is
member of the political bureau of the WPK Central Committee, made an
address at the banquet.
    He said that the WPK has performed immortal feats in the cause of
independence of the popular masses
and the socialist cause, weathering out the stern tempest of revolution
under the leadership of the great leader
Kim Il Sung who successfully achieved the cause of founding the party in a
unique way.
    The WPK is now fully demonstrating the dignity and might as the party
of Kim Il Sung as the system of
unitary leadership of the great Kim Jong Il is firmly established in it,
the militant function and leadership role
of the party have been remarkably increased and the unity of the whole
party based on idea and purpose and
moral obligation is steel-strong, he stressed, and went on:
    The WPK has ushered in a new era of a powerful and prosperous nation
thanks to the army-first policy,
the unique political mode of Kim Jong Il, and the DPRK is fully
demonstrating its invincible might as an
ideologically, politically and militarily strong country.
    The historic north-south joint declaration was adopted and published
and a milestone of reunification
based on the idea of national independence and unity was provided to open a
bright prospect of reunification.
This is a shining fruition of the WPK's policy of national reunification.
    The WPK's future is rosy and the victory of the Korean revolution is
sure to be achieved. The WPK
headed by Kim Jong Il will always emerge victorious and the Korean people
under the leadership of the party
will build an eternally prospering powerful socialist nation and
successfully accomplish the revolutionary
cause of Juche despite whatever difficulties and trials.



Floral basket laid before Kim Il Sung's portrait

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- An event of laying a basket of flowers
before a portrait of the
President Kim Il Sung took place at the Kim Il Sung agricultural special
school in Cuba on October 4 on the
occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Worker's Party of Korea.
    The participants presented the basket to the portrait of the President
and paid respects to him.
    The director of the school said that Kim Il Sung who devoted all his
life to the happiness and welfare of
the Korean people and the unbreakable, fraternal friendship and solidarity
between the Cuban and Korean
peoples will always live in the hearts of the world's progressive people
with history.

Kim Jong Il's works released abroad

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The Academia Publishing House of Cuba
brought out in booklet the
great leader Kim Jong Il's celebrated work "On the Fundamentals of
Revolutionary Party Building" on
October 1.
    His other work "the Worker's Party of Korea Is the Party of the Great
Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung"
was published by the Indian and world events of India on October 7 on the
occasion of the 55th birthday of
the WPK.



Juche idea study group of Cambodian youth formed

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The Cambodian Youth Group for the Study
of the Juche Idea was
formed in Phnom Penh on October 6 on the threshold of the 55th anniversary
of the Worker's Party of
Korea.
    A report and a congratulatory speech were made at its inaugural meeting.
    The spokesman of the Cambodian state election committee was selected
chief of the group.
    A letter to the great leader Kim Jong Il was adopted at the meeting.



WPK's birthday celebrated in different countries

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Korean photo and book exhibitions, film
shows and art
performances were arranged in China, Nepal, Tanzania, the Czech Republic,
Indonesia and by the All-India
Trade Union Congress and the Mexican Committee for Supporting Korea's
Reunification from September 26
to October 4 to celebrate the third anniversary of the great leader Kim
Jong Il's election as General Secretary
of the Worker's Party of Korea and the 55th birthday of the WPK.
    On display at the exhibition halls were photographs showing the
revolutionary exploits of the great
leaders President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
    "The Great Leader Comrade Kim Jong Il Gives On-site Guidance to
Different Domains," "Eternal Life
Under His Care" and other Korean films were screened at the shows.
    The immortal revolutionary paeans "Song of General Kim Il Sung" and
"Song of General Kim Jong Il"
were sung in chorus at art performances.
    The participants in those events praised the Worker's Party of Korea as
the most authoritative and
dignified party in the world, referring to the course of victory and glory
covered by it under the wise guidance
of Kim Jong Il.



Guyanese honorary citizenship and key awarded to Kim Jong Il

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- The Linden City Council of Guyana
adopted a decision on
registering the great leader Kim Jong Il as an honorary citizen and
awarding a certificate of honorary
citizenship and a golden key of the city to him on October 3 on the
occasion of the third anniversary of his
election as General Secretary of the Worker's Party of Korea and the 55th
birthday of the party.
    A meeting was held at the city hall on October 6 to convey the
certificate and the key.
    At the meeting the chairman of the city council read out the decision
of the council and introduced the
biography of Kim Jong Il.
    Then speeches were made before a letter to Kim Jong Il was adopted.



Foreigners pay respects to Kim Il Sung

    Pyongyang, October 11 (KCNA) -- Consul-general Liu Zhigang and staff
members of the Chinese
consulate-general in Chongjin visited the statue of the President Kim Il
Sung in the city on Tuesday, the 55th
anniversary of the Worker's Party of Korea, to lay a basket of flowers and
pay respects to him.
    Consul-general Oleg Dabydov and staff members of the Russian
consulate-general in the city, too, laid
bouquets before the statue and paid homage to the President.
    Meanwhile, 20 odd delegations from northeastern China including
delegations of the Longjing city, Jilin
Province, tourist bureau and the Harbin Machinery Export and Import Company
of China presented baskets
of flowers to the statue of the President in Chongjin on the same day.
