New Delhi, October 16: Hundreds of students and young men and women
belonging to the DYFI, SFI, and Janwadi Mahila Samiti along with
Palestinian students demonstrated in front of Israeli Embassy against the
killings of Palestinian people by the Israeli army. The rally and
demonstration was stopped and all present were placed under arrest.

The demonstration started from Hotel Taj Man Singh and reached the gate of
Israeli Embassy. The demonstrators were shouting slogans against the Barak
government and US imperialism. The main slogan of the demonstration were:
Hands-off East Jerusalem, Stop killing innocent people of Palestine, US
Imperialism down-down and struggle of Palestinian people long live.

The protest meeting was addressed by DYFI Delhi state secretary, Mahesh
Kumar and SFI Delhi state joint secretary, Vijoo Krishnan. Anurag Saxena,
SFI, Delhi state secretary presided over the protest meeting. Mahesh Kumar
in his speech criticised Israeli government for instigation of violence and
killing of innocent Palestinian people. He attached US administration for
playing dubious role in the whole episode and also said that the Israel
government has become a stooge of US imperialism. He also lambasted the
Israeli government for openly violating the UN assembly resolution in this
regard and demanded the early liberation of East Jerusalem from Israeli.
Vijoo Krishnan, former JNUSU president asked the UN to pressure on Israeli
government to immediately stop the killing of innocent people and for the
immediate restoration of peace. What is of even greater concern is the
departure of the present government from our nation's earlier stand to
extend support to the cause of the Palestinian people.

Vijoo also asked the UN to exert maximum pressure on the Israeli government
to find peaceful solution to this problem. While he was addressing the
gathering police intervened and forcibly stopped the meeting proceedings.
All the demonstrators were then taken to the Tughlak Road Police station.
Protestors while going to the Police station shouted slogans against the
highhandedness of Delhi police. All the protestors were detained for about
one hour and released.
