General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Le Kha Phieu has
presented servicemen on the Truong Sa Archipelago with the special prize
worth VND 15 million for their high knowledge on the revolutionary history.
The prize was handed over to the Truong Sa Archipelago Youth Union
representatives under the Navy Force of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) at
a ceremony held in Hanoi on November 3. Three first prizes, each worth VND
5 million, came to the youth unions of the Anti-craft and Airforce, the
borderguards and the Cuu Long corps.
The quiz on the revolutionary history was launched by the General Politics
Department under the VPA among young people from March 25 to September 30
and received 176,898 entries.
Dao Ngoc Anh, an eighth grader of the Algeria Junior Secondary School in
Hanoi was awarded the third prize for the youngest contestant with good

Vietnam values UN development activities
Vietnam has attached importance to practical United Nations (UN) programmes
for development, said a Vietnamese delegate
at a conference on voluntary contributions to UN development activities
held in New York on November 2.
The delegate stressed that these are the best measures for the UN to
effectively support socio-economic development in
developing countries.
He said Vietnam thanked the UN for the impartial and effective assistance
given to developing countries in general, and Vietnam in particular over
the past three decades.
However, he noted, contributions, especially from developed countries to UN
development activities have been reduced continuously in recent years, thus
causing a significant decline in UN development funds.
Vietnam, although meeting economic difficulties, has maintained and
increased its contributions to UN funds and programmes, which constitute
Vietnam's seriousness in its pledges to support such activities, the
Vietnamese delegate
stressed.
Vietnam's stance on and contributions to UN development programmes were
appreciated by foreign participants at the conference. (VNA)

Vietnam attends ASEAN youth conference
A Vietnamese delegation, led by Vu Trong Kim, first Secretary of the Ho Chi
Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the Youth Committee, is
attending the third ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Youth in Yangon,
Myanmar, on November 2 and 3.
The conference, with a theme on preparations for ASEAN youth to cope with
globalisation challenges, issued the Yangon Declaration and a further
statement on November 3.
ASEAN member countries also in Yangon on November 2 discussed measures to
expand the "ASEAN Industrial Co-operation" (AICO) from six at present to
ten countries at the 28th session of the ASEAN working group on industrial
co-operation.
The four additional countries to be included are Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia
and Myanmar. (VNA)
